New G&L model at NAMM - MJ-4!

My new MJ-4 came a few days ago. Initial impressions are very good.

The 18v active-only 3-band elecs play clean, strong, and quiet. The new dual coil pickups deliver a good s/c sound, sans buzz of course.

Plays nicely right out of the box, tho I'll be cutting the nut slots a tad deeper. Frets are beautifully crowned and polished, thanks to Mr Plek.

This unit is Metallic Graphite with MHS. Number 8 quartersawn neck with quite a bit of flamed figuring. Also came with a G&G G&L tolex case.

and: I still don't like the "serial number plate."

Tacky.

I've read other posts to that effect. I expected to be "meh" about the serial badge. Instead, I kinda like it. It's a solid quality-looking little detail.

No clue as to "why" they adopted the badges. As it prolly costs them more, there must be a reason?

BTW, the control cavity is wired pretty cleanly compared to the L-2000's infamous "bowl of spaghetti" affair.

I for one never liked active bases and that is why both of my L2500s have the actives removed and the pickups wired for full coil tapping. But I'm a old school guy and it works for me. For vintage bass sounds I use my 1990 SB1. I also use LaBella black Nylon tape wound flats on all 5 of my basses and I might add that I have converted 4 other players to these strings. That being said I have never meet a G&L that I did not like USA or Tribby some just suite me better. I've been a G&L guy since 1985. Rock on Dudes!

Super bass! If it came in a 5 I'd be all over it.
