New Gibson Bass in 2013

Recently the Gibson plant was featured on one of the factory shows. It featured the vast array of guitars being designed, assembled, buffed, etc. Not a bass one was shown on the program!

And once you've tried Rics and everyone else, you try cheap boutiques (like wishbass), and then you try expensive boutiques, and then you go back to fender.

Seriously, Leo Fender got the design right 60 years ago. Then he made things we don't need (that make it perfect) about 10 years later, and to this day the greatest bassists of all time have been playing his instruments and probably will do for generations to come.

Then Gibson came along with the EB0 (or whatever it was called) and already it was years behind fender. And to this day, they still can't beat the p/j-bass. Maybe if they paid more attention to the bass playing community they'd make some more hits, but they are what they are: a GUITAR company that makes a few basses as well

I'd say the pickups look well, also it is nice that it is longscale. Other companies also do lots of retro-style designs, so why shouldn't Gibson come with a retro design too? The bad thing is that they don't come up with a design that looks cool. I think the Gibson Victory design was a very good design. I don't know why they don't use that design (though it is very Fender-ish it is still an original and respected Gibson design) use ash bodies and the new electronics. I'd say I could come up with a better design than the one in the pic...

Never seen a Gibson bass I'd own. I agree with an earlier post, it looks like an old Fender Musicmaster with a Gibby neck. Like many have said Gibson misses the mark on a consistent basis. Sure there are a couple out there that are nice but typically, they are too heavy and too darn expensive. It's funny, the only Gibson bass I'd like to have isn't even a Gibson, it's the Epi Jack Cassady. How the hell does Epi get one right and Gibson can't.

Gibson guitars on the other hand, I love them.

I've owned several different Gibson basses from EBO's to Grabbers to Thunderbirds.

As for this "new" Gibson pictured in the OP, I would have to say that Gibson needs to go back to their drawing board and get a visionary bassist or two on their design team if they want to keep up. That Mosrite looking thing isn't for me.

Not my taste at all.

As noted above, how come Epiphone can make the Jack Casady look so sweet (and I'll add the Allen Woody), but Gibson seem to miss nearly every time?

I like Non-reverse T-Birds. I even liked the Les Paul (the guitar LP shaped) bass. I was 'this' close to going after a Victory once upon a time (nice bass, but not quite there). Never been a fan of Grabber/Ripper style, or EB series stuff. The RD was nearly there. Explorers are cool, but I'm not willing to pay the chiropractic bills.
And now this. Not my cup of tea at all.

Tsk. Time wasters.

How could Wal get it so right and a huge company like Gibson get it so wrong?
