New Gibson Bass in 2013

I'm just more excited that the OP said that there is going to be a new G3, surely they can't mess that up...right?
Gibson should follow fenders game plan. Reissue US made legendary models.... moderately priced (for US production instruments lets say 1000 to 1800 neighbohood) rippers, grabbers, g3s, rds in addition to thunderbirds and sgs available. Make a good hollowbody and les paul and maybe throw a 5 in there. They'd sell a lot.
Lord knows I would buy a new grabber and G3 if they made them. i'd probably mod them to be active but still

The G-3 pickups (and the EB-F's) are designed by Jim DeCola, formerly with Fender's Custom Shop.........
first impression: that dude is about to bust his chin on the upper horn.
second impression: looks like that bass will suffer from neck dive like all other Gibsons.
third impression: that is one ugly shaped pickguard. looks like it was inspired by hawkbill knife.
fourth impression: could have some potential, I would at least pick one up and try it out if I came across one in a music store.

It reminds me of a cross between a Gibson Ripper and a Lakland Decade, all with MM Stingray style humbuckers. Just from an aesthetic standpoint, I'm not into it.
Love Gibson basses, but sorry.... this is ugly.

Seriously, Gibson, do what we want and offer proper reissues of your classic designs. THEN go on and start experimenting.
All I want is a proper pre-66 EB-3 reissue! IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK!?
Also, why is this called the EBF? It has pretty much NOTHING in common with the rest of the EB family. Weird marketing.
Now see THAT's hot. I'll definitely want to try it out, and that's an awesome price for a US made instrument (well, maybe not awesome, but still, not bad). See Gibson, just stick with reissuing your back catalog. Seems to work really well with your guitars, so just do the same thing with your basses.

Now THIS is a great looking Gibson bass! And those pickups look hot and probably sound great too!
I would be interested in something like this from Gibson.
Looks just like the Epiphone Ripper I used to have same PG, body shape and neck shape. Looks cool but it is impossible to play sitting down. I do at least half my practicing at home sitting down, so that's a concern for me and why I sold the Epi.
RE: The new Gibson...not my thing and I agree with most of the comments made that Gibson misses the boat w/their basses and should follow in Fender's footsteps and issue a "40th Anniversary Reissue Grabber" or something like that. ESPECIALLY for what Gibson basses cost.

I agree with Mike that that G-3 is no sit down bass. Actually, not many Gibson instruments at all are that comfy to play sitting down. Their styling just doesn't lend itself well to sitting on your leg. That G-3 looks great though and I bet is sounds awesome but if it is not comfy to play I would look elsewhere.
I also agree that Gibson should reissue old styles rather than try to make new ones.
Non-reverse T-Birds are the one style of Gibson that I would not mind having.

A non reverse Tbird would be awesome...my first 'real' bass was a G3...woud love to check those out...they didn't get the pickups right with the Grabber and Ripper reissues, IMO...assuming the G3 pickups sound right, I'd love to have one...wish they were still clear/see thru 
Hum I dunno. I thought gibson was to busy in court with admitting their wrong choices in wood procuring. And with trying to come up with a advertising approach to make plywood rosewood fretboards pass for a good thing. Not much time for trying to create some new basses.
The short scale tbird bass was nice idea. Should have the same or close to the advantages playing wise as my shortscale bc rich mockingbird guitar compared to the regular scale ones. No neck dive and elimination of most or all of that awkward reach to first fret these body styles give due to how it wears on strap.
