Steinberg Sequel LE is a pretty low-end "DAW". Why waste your time learning that one when you can start with Reaper for free?

New GK Plex Preamp

I think mine showed up today. Playing a wedding all day so I won't be able to open the box until tonight. I preordered from bassstringsonline.

I've just been playing with it for the last few minutes, so here are some random thoughts:
- General physical characteristics: The layout is complex. Many of the features, such as the profiles, the compression ratio, etc, are accessed by pushing the knobs. If you intend on changing these settings often, you'll have to have the instructions handy, because pushing the buttons scrolls you through numbers rather than labels. The tuner requires a quick double-tap of the right footswitch.......very quick. Not easy. No USB cable is included, which annoys me. For those intending to power these on a pedalboard, be aware that you need 500mA. A wall wart is included.
- Gain level flat is low...even with master almost maxed out. EQs work as expected. The "hi cut" is a very cool feature that rolls off over 2.5k. Cuts out string noise and fret clanking nicely. Presence and Bass bump are also nice, if you like those features.
- Voicings: the differences between these are subtle. I've got a kid sleeping right now so I can't test at real volume. I like what I hear so far, definitely a bit of GK growl in there.
- Drive is nice. 5 levels of drive, all gain adjustable. Like most onboard effects, it will be great for those of us who don't use it much, but fuzz snobs will probably be disappointed.
- Compressor: I'll admit, I'm a compressor snob. This one is.....ok. It interjects a bit of noise and seems to take a slight bit of high end off the tone. It does have adjustable attack and release, but you must choose between 5 preset combos of those adjustments. Again, it will probably work great for most.
Hi I'm new to this forum. I'm a Guitar player forced to play bass because my friends all play guitar and I'm the only one who purchased a Steinberger Spirit 5 string bass a few years ago to play around with so I'm elected to be the bass player now.
Anyway, Is the Plex effects loop in the Plex pre or post preamp? Is there a switch to be pre or post? This will be my first bass effects pedal besides a Boss GE-7B that I used for my guitar rig.
I saw an excellent bass player 4-5 years ago play Bach's Toccata and Fugue on his bass thru a GK rig which was amazing and sounded awesome. His performance has burned GK in my brain. ( :

I'm also a guitarist just starting bass... The FX loop is definitely post preamp as otherwise it's just an impractical way to hook up pedals in front (not really an FX loop at all if that was the case). The pre/post switch is about the placement of the DI.
So if the loop is post EQ and then you select your DI to be pre EQ does that mean that your effects won't go to the board?

IMO, any pedal that requires a 500ma power supply shouldn't be powered by batteries and I would bet that the PLEX doesn't either.
