New guy, which is why I'm posting

Cost really. Not much else.
you don't need thousands of dollars to get started. You can get started for a few hundred dollars. An SX or Squire or Ibanez bass and a little 15 watt practice amp wouldn't put you back a whole lot, but I don't know where you're at in life. I've had times I didn't know how I was going to pay the bills and eat and would have killed for $300 bucks.
