I LOVE IT!!!

How's the tone variation?

It responds very very well to picking position. If you are picking it close to the neck, it is very soft and tasty. Directly over the pickup it is accurate and growly with strong fundamentals. Picking at the bridge delivers a very dry and brutally punchy groove. The treble is glassy but not harsh. The overall tone is transparent with very strong fundamentals.

The neck needs some slimfast. We are not yet chill on the neckshape thus I will have to re-post when I get the next bad boy in my hands with the slimmer neck.

I have a BaseX.oc5 and IMHO the deep set neck joint is why the low B sounds so great. Why the different approach with this instrument? Is that lip where the neck meets the body supposed to be there? Nice wood, maybe the pick guard will grow on me but right now not so much.

We chose this neck joint versus the High tention neckjoint (BaseX.oc) to offer a more conventional design philosophy. The deep pocket and 6-bolt design maintains the tight low B as well. The lip is supposed to be there, part of the design. We have been getting mixed reviews on the pick-guard, we like it though.

I am not very fond of it (aesthetics), but I'm sure it'll sound amazing. I think if you guys can put out a more affordable version of the Jonas Like you did with the BaseX, it will be a major hit, especially for fretless lovers.

I LIKE the pickguard. Perhaps it could be optional? Anyhoo, there will be naysayers no matter how nice the bass is. Who will get these first in the U.S. ? And have you guys thought about doing a 6 string yet? The oval pickups are very cool.

how much are these gonna be going for roughly?

We are working hard to keep them at the near where the current OC.d basses are priced. The 5 retails for $1799 (BaseX.oc5) and streets at about $1550. Should not be a problem to keep the new bass close and maybe lower to this but I do not want to give any false info.

6-String may come shortly after the release of the 4 and 5. We are working on getting everything setup so that all the dealers will have a 4 and 5 in stock. When we get the final proto and get it all de-kinked and bugged, we will then start allocated the first delivery.
