New Ibanez ATK 300 Question

ATKs aren't a very "hot" active bass stock. I've heard there is an internal pot that allows you to up the juice of the preamp. I like mine where it is, so I haven't gone snooping yet.

This is correct - it's easy to find and adjust. I run mine at about 85% on (near as I can figure) for a good hot signal into my Tech 21 amps. Makes my distorted channel really howl :)

Just going back to the weak sound issue, it is possible to get a weak sound out of an ATK into any rig if the battery is near dead or if the preamp's gain trimpot is set too low. My 300 sounded totally dead when I got it, compared to my 305... Replacement battery didn't change it, but cranking up the trimpot (so that the level matched my 305) completely transformed it!

I should mention that ATK's take flats very well (I have fender flats on my defretted 300) if you wanna try that as a tonal or feel adjustment.

I recently got an Indonesian made ATK 300 NT, I am very impressed with it, I want to try flats on it for a change, please recommend a good string brand and gauge for it.
Thank you very much.
