Double Bass New Ibanez combo - DB friendly?

hmmm... i haven't been a fan of ibanez, but i'll have to look for this thing. thanks for posting about it.
We have it in for review. It'll be in Issue 4 as a Quick Look. I can tell you this so far - it sounds great. The head by itself is extra special. It slots very nicely into the marketplace. I am using a prototype, not a production model. But I'd be surprised if they changed anything. Where did you see the pricing? I don't think it'll be half the CMD121P.
We have a Ibanez guitar amplifier hear at home it's been very dependable. Seems like everyone want's to get into lightweight switch mode power supply bass amps. I also think it's pretty interesting that the amp head is Red. Reminds me of my Walter Woods Amps. Both Ampeg (Portabass) and Crate tried this out, but neither of those companies built them for very long. Carvin has one that's getting good press though and the prices have sure gone down.

It would be fabulous for you to do a quick measurement of the preamp frequency response curve, to tell us in the upright world whether it is "voiced" or not.
It would also be nice to know what the input impedance was. Fortunately for the 500k ohm challenged there's always the HPF Preamp. Works like a charm.

I'm not sure that we'll have that for the Quick Look, but I do look forward to putting one of these heads/combos through the wringer.
I've tried it. It's got everything going for it except the sound. I found the midrange voicings were not really DB friendly, however your mileage may vary. A shame, I really wanted to like it, but my Markbass head and BagEnd 1x12 blew it into the weeds.

In general I would say the Promethean is capable of delivering a wider variety of sounds than the EA setup, however, it's a little fussier to dial them in than the EA. Tried both amps with a double bass using both a Full Circle and a Rev Solo pickup. Once again the EA rig was even and balanced (albeit a bit dull sounding) while the Promethean was a little more peak-y and acoustic sounding.
At the Gig: Sounded great with the double bass in a medium size venue. Plenty of volume and projection. Sounded great with active 5 string electric bass, however, use of the low B at high volume would be better with an extension cab. (hey, it's just a 1-10 cabinet after all). Played a concert in a big venue and added a 2x10 cabinet. Awesome sound, smooth, loud and plenty of low end. The amp wasn't even close to being pushed either. The balanced line out at -20db was much appreciated by the sound guy.
Bottom line: I'm very happy with my Promethean P5110 Combo. It's functional, versatile and will work by itself for probably 90% of my gigs. Add an extension cabinet and WOW! It's also quite a bit less expensive than other combo's of it's ilk. Haven't had any problems yet, but will keep you posted.
