New Ibanez (headless, multiscale)

Dang... I'm wanting the sixer. I'm a little fatigued with the B string tone on my 32" scale... Wouldn't mind a different top wood / finish though.

Hope GC or Sam Ash in Hollywood gets one for me to test soon. May get my first new bass in 5 years if so..
 
For the Canadians in here, just heard back from my local L&M and it seems the EHB-1506MS shows up in their inventory system. Not sure if that's just for this store but sounds like we'll be getting most if not the whole range up North!

Good, I've been wanting to find what they will run for in Canada(rough guesses from Thomann converted to CAD) and really hoping i can get a few in hand this year.
 
I'm surprised people get so uptight about spacing. My main players are 19mm (4), 16.5 (5&6) and 10.8 (SS6) and I switch between them easily. Slapping on the SS6 would be difficult, but I don't see much difference on the other 2 spacings.

Yeah but 19mm on a six string makes the total span much wider for the right hand. It is different than 19mm on a four string. A smaller spacing has more advantages if you play a lot of chords that span 5 or 6 strings. And also it is easier if you do a lot of string crossing or string skipping stuff.

Wow, geometry makes a difference? I was obviously asleep in all those engineering classes at Uni to not understand simple geometry.

My point was that I play across a wide range of spacings and have little trouble adapting, yet I see many who say they will only play an X string bass with Y mm spacing.

No reason to be sarcastic here. You were talking about a 19mm 4 strings which is a different beast than a 19mm 6 string. Because you don't care about string spacing that doesn't mean others shouldn't care.
 
I've three different basses in spacing and i use succesfully all of them, Yamaha Neck IMHo is the better for playing because is thin and flat (but the truss is gone....) the spirit one is like a Precision Neck, very solid but not flat and the Maruszczyck is a Jazz one with a little more curve. In half an hour playing every bass is playable well instead if it is different.

Obviously. I clearly showed I understood the differences in the earlier post, yet you felt the need, not once, but twice to explain to obvious to me. It's not like I joined yesterday.

Where did I say they shouldn't care? I merely stated that I didn't get the pickiness that some have, not that they should be if they so desired.

Great playing and sound IMO, in particular the B string on the multiscale. These are the first videos where I've heard something positively sonically different from these new models, vs. a same-same sound I've heard on other videos. Who knows what else he was playing through though.
 
Interesting that the 6 string doesn't seem to exist outside of the prototype the Instagram guy has. I haven't seen it in any of the demos or even in the background shots of the new lineup. You'd think they would make it available for demos given how visually striking it is.

Yeah I'm waiting on a demo video for that too. I can't imagine it's all that different from the 1505 though...

No headless tuners do that, i have only seen that happen with a naive and crude DIY-made tuner, and the creator noticed and corrected it immediately.
Depends on how much room there is to move the 'C' saddle forward, for intonation.
This is very probably not a concern. The amount a saddle needs to go forward to intonate a C, relative to a G, is tiny. I have been stringing up various bass guitars with guitar gauges (down to .007) for many years and have never run out of intonation movement.
these bridge tuner units look unnecessarily complicated and I would be interested to see if they can be directly swapped out with the similar looking, but much simpler, individual Hipshot tuner / tailpiece units. The more movable parts the less tone / sustain transfer IMHO
The tuners are not 'unnecessarily' complicated, the only complication over other tuners is the string spacing adjustment, which is necessary for the feature.
Highly unlikely you could swap these for another system as these are recessed.
Because the laterally-sliding saddle top-piece can be locked-down it will be secure and will probably not affect tone. The downforce at the saddle is still solidly supported and helps to create solid support by clamping the saddle pieces together.
The fact that these units offer variable string spacing is also a waste of time IMHO because widening the string spacing puts strings slipping off the end of frets at even higher a risk
The adjustable string spacing is not for moving the outer strings closer to the fret ends, it is for variable per-gap string spacing without moving the outer strings outwards. The feature is not intended for having equal string spacings across all the strings.
Just having 0.6mm difference is just very little room for adjustment.
This 0.6mm value is only assuming equal string spacings, which is not the intention.
fret ends that look terrible
New product, photos are likely of prototypes, and imperfections tend to be fixed up as manufacturing starts.
 
Damn, I was never into headless basses but the EHB1500 is a beauty! It's at the top of my GAS list :bassist:

I also love this one! I only wished this one was made in Japan.
I was thinking of buying this one but I'm buying a 3th second hand german warwick instead

Then it would probably be more expensive, it will be around 1400 euro's where I live. But, I do own a SR1200-VNF which is build in Indonesia and the build quality is top notch so I'm really thinking of buying the EHB1500.
Btw. I can't find where these EHB basses are manufactured

All the Standard, Workshop, and Premium basses are manufactured in Indonesia, so I'd be surprised if it isn't the same with the EHB instruments. As you say, the Preiumium instruments have excellent build quality, so I'm not worried about the fit and finish on the EHBs.
