New Ibanez (headless, multiscale)

Thanks for the vid! Did you notice any difference in fit & finish or fretwork between the basses? I would assume they're made on the same line by the same people but always curious to hear impressions.

Fit and finish, they are roughly the same. Very high quality. I've been impressed with all of the premium basses from Indonesia honestly. Both of my EHBs, my AFR reissue, and my ATK are all from that factory and they're all excellent!

Great video! I am really glad you are helping potential buyers hear the difference between the two. I stick by my earlier statement that I would probably be happy with the EHB1005MS with Nordstrand pickups rather than pay the extra money for the fancier woods that really do not matter to me

I'm in the same boat. I appreciate the 1505MS, but I think the 1005MS with some different pickups (and maybe some roasted maple pickup covers ;) ) would make the 1005MS perfect.

Are you really gonna swap the pickups?

Definitely lots of us are waiting to hear how the 1005MS sounds with the Nordstrand.

The Nords and Barts are not the same size, there's a 1mm difference in length and width and the cavity tolerances are tight. Aguilar does make a direct drop in for the barts from what I understand though.

Beside the pup and wood different, I believe the roasted maple fretboard has harder surface than panga panga fretboard on 1505ms.

I been play Cort A5 Scms display unit at GC and I found lot finger nail mark on the panga panga fretboard. I use my finger nail and give some press on the finger board , damn.... new mark add easily.

Indeed. The 1005 strikes me as a bit more durable overall.

I believe lobster mentioned putting Aguilar pickups in the 1005MS and not taking the Nordstrand pickups out if the 1505MS
Ah... my bad.

Don't know why it's the Nordstrand that got into my mind when writing my last post while I did hear you mentioning Aguilar in the video.

Thanks for reassuring the Nordstrand are different in dimensions. Yes, I'm aware Aguilar has D4 size pickups, which are the direct replacement for P4 size Bart that came with the 1005MS.

Haha, no worries! I snagged a digital caliper recently, I'll do a little segment showing the differences in size as that is a very common question about these basses. Thank you my friend!

Looking forward to it.

I'm a little worried that when I get my EHB1000, I might find the Barts a bit too dark/congested, but if it's simply a matter of adding a bit of treble or high-mids with the EQ, I could live with that. Otherwise I might have to swap out the pickups, and I rather not have to do that. Also, using really bright strings on it might also help.
As I mentioned on LEL's video, I actually was digging the sound of the Barts which surprised me! The 1005 simply sounded smoother. Definitely darker than the 1505, but, like you, I was wondering if it had to do with the age.

On his video, I don't know is it my headphone sound quality or my hearing issue, even the 1005 sound dark , but after I listen both B string Voice again and again, I found the B string voice on 1005 has cleaner sound than rough B string sound on 1505.
I suspect that could cause by neck wood thing. Unfortunately Nordy has different pickups size than Bart Bh2. If possible swap, the B string voice result could be interesting.

For you guys who buy multiscale 5 string bass, I am sure you are all care about B string tone performance.

It could be a variety of things which is why he will do another video with the same (fresh) strings on both basses to better compare the pickups.

New video is out! Reviewing the Ibanez EHB1505MS, the top of the line headless multiscale offering from Ibanez. How does it stand up against the excellent EHB1005MS? Watch to find out!

The difference between is remarkable as the price difference. The difference in sounfd too as the aestetically difference. The "cheaper" one in my opinion is better but I would choose between colors and its lack of punch because PUps is evident. Ibanez created two instruments with same shape and different sound. If Ibanez didn't exotized the top version whith woods the difference in price between could be unremarkable between Bartolini and Northstand

Right! I mentioned in my initial review of the 1005MS that the only weak point was the pickups IMO. Having a matte seafoam green 1005MS with the nordies would be a near perfect instrument. I'm very curious to see how the Aguilars will compare.

The DCB looks like the only Aguilar choice for a drop in replacement and would probably be a good upgrade, but being a dual ceramic bar it doesn’t have the same voicing as the alnico split coil Nordstrand. The Aguilar Super Split is similar to the Nordstrand but the 5-string is P2 size, not the required P4. I’ve had both DCB and BH2 pickups and found the DCB to have better clarity and focus while still having a nice solid tone.

That's what I just ordered. It doesn't look like the P4 size is offered on other pickups for 5's as you said. I was looking at a few other manufacturers as well. The Aggies should be here on Thursday. Going to do another video where both basses have the same sets of strings, as well as go more in depth with the EQs before swapping pickups. BTW, thanks everyone who has watched and/or commented on the latest EHB video! It's blown up and I really appreciate all of the positivity from the bass community!

I would hold off and try to first use the very flexible onboard EQ to get the tone you want. I suspect it's very possible with this new EQ system--especially with that mid-frequency sweep.

Yup. I'm going to do a more in depth video later this week exploring both basses EQs a bit more with a fresh set of strings. Afterwards I'll swap em out. Should be pretty straight forward and I've gotten pretty handy with a soldering iron since that first DIY bass video haha. It will be interesting to hear the difference!
