New Ibanez multiscale bass VI

Played one of these at GC yesterday. Really impressed, it’s basically everything I’d want from a bass vi. Low end sounded amazing and you can for sure use it as an actual bass. It was super comfortable too. The action was a little high on the higher strings but overall it felt really solid. For the price I thought it was a really solid instrument.

Got to play one at a GC this weekend, and unfortunately the multiscale was throwing me off too much, especially for playing chords. It might be something I'd have to get used to with time, but otherwise it played just as well as the SRC6.

My dad has had one of these for a few weeks and it is probably the most fun you can have. I have no idea how I would use it in a musical context but I can sit with the thing on the couch and jam until I go numb. It’s very solidly constructed for the cost and the tone isn’t bad, it’s just different. Sounds great through bass amps but sounds better through a guitar amp on an SVT. Grab one if you’re on the fence, who knows how long they will make ‘em.

Could someone who has one of these please post what the scale lenghths are for each individual string. I know 30-28.5 is in the specs, This is 30" for low E and 28.5" for high E.( assuming that tuning) .But what are the lengths for ADGB strings?

Because the fan is so mild, regular Bass VI sets should fit AOK.

As always, be sure to bend the ends before you clip them to length.

I've read about a now defunct set of La Bellas for a schecter hellcat fitted. My main reason for asking the question about the specific individual string scale lengths was to get an idea of the tensions, and what difference there are from the now ended reg fretted SRC6.

Yes, La Bella Hellcat series have the perfect winding length for the 1st gen SRC6. I got the HC6-F flatwound set and it's been on my SRC6 for years. If La Bella decided to make the Hellcat series into production again, pretty sure they'd be perfect for the SRC6MS.

What tuning have you used with those strings? Would the nut need to be fiddled with to put heavier gauges on it than the HC6-f and make octave below standard a bit more firm. I've read a few variations on the gauges the SRCMS ships with. To me the only tuning that makes sense to put this instrument firmly in the bass camp is an octave below guitar tuning. But the tensions seem overly soft with the stock strings

For those interested here are the differences in tension based on the tensions for D'addario EXL156 which according to the Ibanez fandom wiki the SRC6 shipped with. Ibanez has the same gauges for the SRC6MS so possibly the same strings. I used the different scale lengths per string for the SRC6MS posted by Snert and D'addario's tension chart for the EXL156 which were put out for the 30" Fender VI


SRC6 30" scale
Strings EXL 156
E1 .084 /19.6
A1 .072 /25.31
D2 .056 /27.71
G2 .044 /30.56
B2 .034 /30.04
E3 .024 /27.43
TT = 160.65 lbs


SRC6MS multiscale
E1 30" .084 /19.6
A1 29.7" .072/24.80
D2 29.4" .056/26.61
G2 29.1" .044/28.75
B2 28.8" .034/27.68
E3 28.5" .024/24.75
TT= 152.19 lbs

Replacing the EAD strings with 100 80 60 would seem a better string combo than the stock strings. 19.6 lbs for low E is way too floppy in my opinion

My SRC6 is on standard E1 to E3 tuning. The .095 E1 is tighter than the .084 stock, for sure. No nut alteration required.
