Wow! That green TMB300 looks choice! Maybe I should have gotten that one! I don't think the wife would be too happy if I got another bass a week after I just got the TMB100!

Anyone want to tell me how the 2X J pickup sounds? I'm about to pull the trigger on one of these, but don't want to just buy another bass cuz it looks good. Is it thin sounding, punchy, anything MM like at all? Does it sound like the ATKs? I had one of those and liked the slap sound I got out of it.
Has anyone taken this into a band setting that can give some info on how it holds up? I've owned several Ibanez basses. Have to say that they were all built impeccably, they just got buried in a band mix for some reason. I still own a semi hollow bodied Ibanez that looks absolutely amazing, feels even better, and sounds great in the house - it just gets lost in the studio, and for that reason it'll only see acoustic gigs. I love the looks and price of these on these, but I don't want to throw away $250 if I'm going to wind up never using it.

If you're talking about a bass xtender, I used a BT7. The shape of the keys are too close to call. Posts fit perfectly, but had to drill some screw holes (two if I remember correctly).
I cannot comment on the double J because A: I have a 100 and B: play the P pup exclusively (J turned off). I have to dial back on the bass knob to match the tone of my Fender P, otherwise it's very boomy (good boomy, not bad boomy). Sounds great with the band (rock/ hard rock).Anyone want to tell me how the 2X J pickup sounds? Boomy on an Ibanez is good as far as I'm concerned . So long as it can be dialed out. Would love to hear others opinions, too. I've a feeling the only way I'm going to know for sure though is by picking one up :/.
As mentioned, I owned an ATK for a while, not really sure why I got rid of it. Did only one recording with it that I never came close to finishing, but loved the sound I got... and have since regretted selling it. I'm wondering if this bass can cop that same sound.

I'll see if I have time to make a sound sample of the double J today.
I haven't played a Talman yet so I don't have experience but I'd doubt it's ability to cop an ATK tone. The few double j type pickups I've played had the jazz bass on steroids kind of sound. The ATK was more of a better music man kind of sound. One of the more unique and good tones I've heard. Unfortunately most are just really heavy and don't have an anchor for my thumb.

Pretty sure that's the reason I wound up selling mine when I think back. Was fine in the house, then on the one gig I brought to noticed my right hand felt a little lost.
I am Hoping they make a whole set that don't require any new drilling, or that leave exposed holes. I know I am probably being ridiculous, but they gotta be out there somewhere.
Okies, I have a J pup sound sample. it's only the two J pups together, as the pup split has a pretty standard (slightly weak) J sound.
One sample, multiple settings: Fender rumble set at unity (everything except gain at midpoint), gain set at zero. each of four samples has three riffs, the first is plucked, the second is picked, the third is slapped. They are short, but give you the flavor.
Bass control settings for volume on all samples at 50%, and pickup fade fully to J pup.
First sample, bass and treble at 50%, second sample, bass full, treble at 50%, third sample, treble full, bass at 50%, last sample both bass and treble at full.
Maxing the volume on the bass is very boomy, and via a sound sample doesn't do it justice, using the cut side of the controls, puts the bass in more standard Fender sounding territory. While I am testing it at home, I can say, the tone is not as distinct as my Fender JP 90's J pup (which is a wilkerson replacement).

That bit of noise you hear is the sound of my laptop getting in the pups when I start/stop recording in audacity.
I haven't played it with others, but I have played along with some backing tracks (which I play on a regular stereo). Because it's active, I have to cut the volume compared to my other basses on the same amp settings (even with the 6db pad enabled).
I like it a lot; of all my basses, it's probably the only one as versatile playing-wise as my Fender, though I like the Fender's pups and 9.5" radius better.
The neck is very different from what I'm used to, but so comfortable there wasn't really much of a learning curve to adapt.

I also had the JP-90 as my main player for quite a while, one of the better basses I had with great versatility and playability so I can understand where you're coming from. Really loved the light weight too!
Recently picked up three basses in one month, an Ibanez SR700, a Schecter Elite and the Talman 100. I find myself playing the Talman a whole lot more out of the 3 because of it's quasi-Fender/Ibanez feel- it's pretty versatile. I use it as my "beater" all purpose, swiss army kind of a bass. It's perfect for that role imo. Make no mistake, there are better basses out there, but few if any will be at this price point. I've had the Squier VM Jaguar and the Squier VM Jaguar Special and they are nowhere near as responsive as this bass. I think Ibanez put these basses out there to compete with the Jaguar. Very similar prices $199 for Special, and $299 for the VM Jaguar with the stacked knobs.
I didn't have that much of a problem adjusting to the neck as much as I thought I would have, I had a P bass and also a Yamaha RBX170EW - the neck of the Talman is very, very similar to the Yamaha. It's not pencil thin like the SR basses but it is indeed very comfortable.
Pretty sure there are, wondering if it's close to the ones on the Squier VM Jags but ideally better tuners than those would be the ones to put on the Talman. I highly doubt Ibanez used custom made tuners on the Talman but rather an off-the-shelf variety. Probably one of the cheaper ones you see on Ebay.
We've had some of the same basses Maxdusty. I had a VM jag (34" scale), the neck was nearly identical to my JP-90 (except for the finish), I almost kept it just for a spare neck for the JP. As you point out, it was lackluster in tone, I thought maybe it was maybe the preamp, but when I jumperd the preamp out, I discovered it was the pups. The Talman feels or sounds little like it (a good thing).
I flipped a RBX 170 a while back, and I'm with you on the neck thickness/shape, but the Talman has less of a taper, which is almost RIC-like.
Ironically... on price point, I paid $295 for my JP-90 back in '92
I called BestBassGear.com today about the Hipshot Vintage series tuners as a replacement for stock TMB tuners. They hadn't heard much of anything on the Talman models and really didn't know what to tell me. They were VERY NICE to deal with and he pointed me to the Technical Assistance page with all of the Hipshot Tuner dimensions listed in diagram.
I set out to start taking measurements on the stock tuners to compare, BUT, I CANNOT find my digital dial calipers. I tried using a ruler and a tape, but I am kinda Screwed in that aspect. I have a disease in my left eye that kills my ability to see super fine detail, so I can't read a tape or ruler.
Until I find my digital dial calipers, NO TUNERS! POOOOOP.
