Double Bass New Ischell Mic, Gear Junkie Review Coming

I haven't done that comparison yet. I will probably bring them both to my New Years Eve gig and compare them. It really does seem though, that the A3 is very feedback resistant. I'll put a recording of it through my amp in the next post.

Ischell A3 Air Mic resistant to feedback and bleed?

This will require some additional testing on my part, but my initial impression is that I can use this air mic for the relatively quieter types of gigs I play. I cranked my amp up quite a bit in my studio and it never hinted at feeding back. Also, in listening to my recordings in post #100 my voice is almost as hard to hear on the A3 recording as it is on the C3 (contact mic) recording. Compare that to the onboard X/Y mics where my voice is much louder.

I'm also very happy with my Xlson. I haven't found anything 'better'. But I've not tried the Schoeps and probably never will. I just enjoy messing about with gear.

Hear hear. If I could afford more 'wonderful' I'd be looking at yet another bass. But me owning a high-end bass would be like a cabbie driving a Bentley.

Thanks for that, Kristian. It's good to be reminded of the law of Diminishing Returns. This also helps explain why John Goldsby uses an isolation screen.

When I've shown photos or videos of the Schoeps with the iso screen, that is always a live or studio recording situation. The mic is going to FOH and to the recording board. I don't run the Schoeps through a bass amp ;)

The Ischell A3 Air Mic that @rickwolff demo-ed sounds great though the amp.

The Full Circle, Yamahiko, and Realist Life Line are probably the pickups used most that I've witnessed out on gigs. I have a Life Line on my Kolstine Busetto Travel Bass simply
because I prefer wooden adjusters. It sounds really nice, back to the amp. My bias is that the Yamahiko (from which the Fishman was derived) is IMHO a better design for a
bridge adjuster piezo, but lots of excellent players use the Fishman. So if you want to try a adjuster based design you have more than one choice.

Tried another Mic Shootout tonight - this time straight to the board (The Zoom Q8)

The three mics are







It should be noted that the first two are similar in that they are mono and close miced.

The Zoom, being and XY mic is Stereo and are NOT close miced - about 2 feet from the bass.

Let me know your thoughts, please.
