anyways i started playing it in jazz band and i got my first bow last x mas and now i have to learn somthing good for a collage thing... grr anyone know any good pieces that would work well for this?? like look good but not overwhelm me????
:help:

I think given your time constraints, you need to get a teacher who has gotten students through the audition process. A teacher can give you a quick and frank evaluation of your prospects, and coach you in what you need to prepare.

Are you talking about majoring in music, or auditioning for a college music group while majoring in something else? I did the latter, and got into the college jazz band on electric bass. It was a college that didn't have a substantive music performance program, so the competition wasn't overwhelming. The audition was largely reading a number of big-band charts.

If you're looking to be a music major, you can probably find a state school with a passable music program that will let you in regardless of how much experience you have on upright. A situation like yours isn't unheard of, and there should be someone in the prospective program's administrative side who can answer your questions and let you know your chances of getting in to their program. Letters of recommendation from band directors, teachers, etc go a long way in this regard. Nevertheless, find a teacher and get started on the basics and working on putting something together, as even lenient programs require some kind of audition.

Good luck!

well lets see... im gonna major in music, im going to audition at both UOI and BSU. i want to end up as a high school director after collage. im planning on performing a jazz bass piece "which i already have" and some sort of orchistra piece using a bow. i live in a small town and the closest place i could get a teacher or somthing is almost 100 miles away... ya live in the middle of NOWHERE!!!
anyways i am pretty decent with a bow but it still squeeks some when i go fast. im just lookin for ideas on music that i could work on or solos that anyone may know of that would work well for my possition.

I'm in the same boat dood! I'm totes going out for Curtis though, strait to the top. Maybe you aern't holding your bow paralell to the bridge when you play fast, or maybe you just haven't played the right music yet. You should check out the Caputsy concerto, it's like too easy for me but a lot of ppl like it.
