New Marcus Millar Fan

Kenny Garrett's 'newest' album, Standard Of Language is co-produced by Marcus...
This surprised me; MM is NOT playing bass on this acoustic 4-tet outing & the sound of the disc is NOT so slick as MM's solo stuff.
If interested, check out "What Is This Thing Called Love?" & "XYZ"...bassist Charnett Moffett & drummer Chris Dave are, to say the least, smokin' & hard-hitting!
This album is good news if you're a Kenny Garrett fan.

Is it just me, or is Marcus Miller's tone so bright, and he plucks the strings so forcefully, that it always sounds like he's slaping?

He slaps alot but sometimes he does pluck hard over the front pickup(i.e.Stanley Clarke). It sounds like he's slapping out those melodies all the time; he doesn't. I used to think it was all slapping until I bought a Jazz bass and found that this hard plucking was an easy sound to get from that instrument and plus seeing him do it live.
