New marcus miller strings

I found them to be pretty much the same smoothness, depending on what DR's you're comparing. Sunbeams are smoother but they also use different wraps so that doesn't really count. SuperBrights are similar because they use the same compression winding method that DR uses. There are a few reasons why these are so similar to DR......
So how would you compare them to the Sunbeams in terms of sound and feel?

Feel: Sunbeams have a smoother feel. SuperBright Nickels are more flexible...more 'bouncy' if you will.

Sound: Sunbeams are much more mellow, very muffled in comparison. SuperBrights are wide open, deeper, just a lot more clarity on top with a nice crunchy midrange.

That's a real interesting development. I'm using the nickel Super Brights after 30 years using XL's, and I love them. Never thought anything would make me switch, but these did. Have not tried the steel SB's, though.

Hey Jimmy,

I've tried the SB steels and also coming from the XL nickel side I liked the SB Nickels better. I do wonder how these Marcus strings differ than the now regular super bright steels?

Anyway, it's great that there's so many options out there!

I have been telling Cats about these Super Brights for months, and well before MM came onboard. :-) I personally prefer the SS Super Brights as opposed to Nickel. Still if you Slap these are hard not to like. Just my opinion though so don't shoot me.

You are ahead of the curve! I might try the SS's for grits and shins, but I promise not to shoot you if I don't like them ;) Have to admit, though, that the Nickels give me lots of incentive just to stick with them.

Man I'm an Old School Slapper and for right now I'm on the Dunlop Bandwagon. I'll never down play or exaggerate any vendors gear. I just happen to like the way the SS sound when I Slap. I'm from way back when the standard was a Fender JB with Rotosounds :)

Yeah, I used to use Rotos back in the day, too. Switched to nickels when I started to see big divots in my frets, though. I know some can use them without needing a fret dressing every couple years but I'm not one of them. Missed the sparkly high end of Rotos, but the XL's were good in other ways so I went with them. Thanks to the SB nickels, I get the twang of Rotos with the warmth of XL's, but it really does make me curious about how I'd like the steels.

Yeah I think you were probably one of...if not THE first one here that discovered the awesomeness of SuperBrights. I made the switch back in August and for the first time ever, all of my basses are wearing the same exact strings. That's saying something right there!

Thanks for this. I am sitting back watching all these developments and thinking hey where's my string endorsement LOL!!!!!!!I know I was one of the first to start spreading the word :-). All I can do is play my bass and smh!!!!

All this talk about switching from nickel XLs to these SuperBrights... I hate when things rock the boat. Time to go buy some strings. I've always just gone with XLs because they seem to be available regardless of the town I'm in for a gig. I see Dunlop everywhere too, so...

Do it! :) Get the SuperBrights though, not the regular Dunlops. I will warn you..they are NOT XL's. XL's are stiffer feeling and harder sounding in the mids and highs.

Are these different than nonMarcus SS super brights?

Yep, the Marcus Miller Super Bright Strings are different from the standard Super Bright Steels. The Marcus sets started with the same Super Bright formula, but we worked with Marcus over a two year period to dial in just the right sound and feel for his playing style and setup. The tension on these is not quite as low as the standard Super Brights, and the sound you'll get is crisp and crunchy on top with a fat low end and a big fundamental.

Thanks for the info Lord Trau!

That sounds great!

Have any idea when they'll be available from places like the awesome Bassstringsonline.com?
