New marcus miller strings

I wonder if these strings would be going over as well if Marcus wasn't endorsing them ??
The same thing happened with DR when Fatbeams came out. I wonder if it's all just hype ?? If let's say Richard Bona's picture was put on a pack of R. Cocos, would they become popular too ?

Well, Marcus just started the endorsement (or at least it just became public) and some of us have been raving about SuperBrights for a while now. I'd say this is definitely a case of a top notch player endorsing strings because he loves them, not because he's being paid to do so. Marcus could go with any string company he wants, but nobody else has strings that do what SuperBrights do.

I agree. I'll definitely check them out.
I'm hooked on the nickel SuperBrights though. Oh slap!!!

Yeah I think you were probably one of...if not THE first one here that discovered the awesomeness of SuperBrights. I made the switch back in August and for the first time ever, all of my basses are wearing the same exact strings. That's saying something right there!

Apparently you have to be a bigger or more well known player to get the String Endorsement. I'm just happy that I was one of the first to spread the word online about these strings. I did the same on FB and got other players to try them out. No harm, no foul. I don't mind paying my own way anyway. And yes I will continue to buy and use these strings. I wasn't slighted in the least and have been treated very well by the folks at Dunlop.

Yeah I'm just some schlub sitting at home with too many basses who plays out at local bars/restaurants from time to time, and the folks and Dunlop have really been great to me.

I just noticed the name change yesterday, going to have to try these Dunlops. Of course, I did just score a pile of closeout MM Fat Beams, so it might take a while... ...I love Hi Beams, so the Dunlops should be interesting.

Now that I have some definite information about these strings I can post. I didn't even know for certain the gauges until yesterday.

They are .045 .065 .085 .105 and the 5-String set adds a .125

They are different from the "Stainless Steel Super Brights" in a few different ways. I haven't played them yet but Dunlop states they have a much stronger fundamental and are higher tension than the "Super Bright" strings.

They are expected to start shipping very soon so we will give them a try then!

Not nearly as popular as Marcus because Marcus is a much bigger name, but it would definitely give R Cocco a bump. But while I'm sure a lot of folks will try them just because Marcus is using them, nobody's going to stick with them on the sole basis that Marcus uses them. You still have to like it to keep using it, otherwise you should be checked into a mental ward. But that's how it works. Endorsements sell. That's why companies fall all over themselves to land guys like Marcus or Richard Bona, or me ;)

Me, I'm not going to try them. Not available in my wuss gauges. I don't sneer at higher tension but I gotta have my wuss gauges. Plus I'm quite happy with dead Super Bright Nickels for now. I've always wanted a real versatile string that can do a credible dead flatwound tone and a credible new roundwound tone (I know, right?), but if you let Super Bright Nickels go dead, it's about as close as I think you'll ever get to attaining that goal. Mine aren't super dead but they're dead, and I usually hate using dead rounds but this is working for me.

I do get what you're saying about liking the SBN strings when they're dead. Is the bass you're liking them on a Jazz with a maple fret board?
I've got mine (which are also pretty dead) on a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz (maple board), and it still sounds nice when I dig in.

Precision. I do have a PJ but it's been in the shop for months with no sign of getting it back anytime soon. Too bad the repair guy's an old friend. I'd go get it and take it to someone else if he wasn't.

Put a new set of Super Bright SS on my upgraded Brute last night. Gigging tonight and I already have a nasty attitude. I'm going to kill tonight. When I slap and pop, I'm taking no Prisoners and won't be nice about it at all :-).

Folks,
What are the life of these strings compared to say XL's? I realize it's early in this product but are the people who like zing in their string happy with the zing months later? I purchased a set of Dunlops a few years back (can't recall which) to have new strings for an upcoming gig and they died a few weeks later. Hence, my longevity of string life concern.
Thanks.

Here's some performance footage for Dunlop TV. Marcus Miller kicked off the new "Dunlop Sessions" series performing songs from "Afrodeezia". The strings, of course, are used for this performance:

Looks like he's back to using EBS amps. I wondered what he was going to use when SWR went out of business. I thought his SWR MM preamp looked great! I never got a chance to use one though. Sorry to derail.
