New mesa subway amps and cabs!

Can't remember who, but someone here does... he posted a video of his band.. or maybe in the other thread. Regardless it works great for reggae

I have a Streamliner 900 and a D-800, but have also tried out a WD-800 a couple of times - IMO, although the D-800 would get the job done, the WD-800 is a better choice for your stated goals...

So, here comes some silly talk :)

I 've most always poo-poo the talk of folks that say "XYZ amp gets my sound when set 'flat' or at noon"
as I hear that noon setting thing as just the amps baked in tone and not really a 'flat' response. And most of the time I don't care for the baked-in sound so, I turn knobs :)

Now I don't have a stable of amps to A/B as most of the cats here have other than the 3 I have now, GK 1001 RB, Carvin BX1500, and the ol' B15n, the ones in the past I owned, various Sunn and Acoustic products, and my backline encounters and only once played through a Mesa, some big tube joint so, my experience is limited.

Having said all of dat, I am really diggin' this WD 800! :)

The silly part is, I bought the amp for its 3 bands of parametric mids so I would have a lot of tone control and they are grand for tone adjustment but I've been just using the bass, treble, HPF and the passive mid control most of the time :)

Do I think the amp set at noon is flat? IDK but it sounds good and at times, it's my sound :D
Again I do fiddle with the bass, HPF and that one mid-range control.

I also like the way it plays with different speaker cabinets and believe me, I have a lot of 'different' cabs :D

Bottom line, grandpa is happy with this latest Andy aka agedhorse creation!

Oh, and I play a lot of different kinds of music, Goundation roots reggae, Island reggae, Funk, Neo Soul or old soul music as I call, some Hip Hop, Art Rock, Rock old and new, Art Noise and whatever can get me gigs and get at my neighbors. :D

Adding to this... well maybe not...
My experience before my D800 was a GK MB800.. great power, but was tired of twisting knobs to get a sound I liked for more than five minutes...
Before the GK... an Eden WTX 500.. so clean sounding it was almost sterile, to my ears.. great amp though, just ran out of steam too early..
Prior to the Eden, a Peavey Tour 450.. I hated it, so I won't go any further on that..
All this said, after getting my D800.. knobs at noon.. no effects. Just wanted to try stripped down for first play..

I was blown away with how perfectly thick and juicy the blessed wonder of aural awesomeness that hit my ears...

Then I slowly dialed up the Voice... Gaah!!! And I've never liked enhancing type knobs..
THEN... started twisting knobs and the glory of pure, sexy, stunning, bass fantasticalness was brought forth..
Needless to say, I absolutely love my Mesa D800... but I won't lie, I'm definitely interested in trying the WD

i love the sound “flat” on the WD. Just like yourself, i rarely touch the mids, but they are definitely useful in particular situations

I do!
For me for reggae, it's about speaker cabinet with the WD 800 as far as getting a good reggae sound as in big, if I have to fill the venue myself, no PA support. If it's a big gig that has subs involved, I don't worry as much about a big cab, just to make sure I have the right feel where I am on stage so a smaller cab can work.

As far as just talkin' about the amp itself, IMHO, it can do it all. There's enough power and booty on tap just, make sure you have the cabinets to back it up, you'll be fine, again IMHO :)

Glad you're digging the WD, Bebop!

That's a nice mix. One of my favorite things about the WD is the wide range of tones that you can dial in to fit whatever you're playing.

I'd love to find some guys that would work some Groundation in around here!
