I use my D-800 in a reggae band and with the deep switch engaged...it always satisfies

I actually pulled the trigger on a WD800 - it‘s simply wow with my Sandberg basses. I wanted it for the versatility and the tube preamp and it actually replaces my TH350, which I like a lot. But I admit: the Mesa is a different kind of beast, and the amps are hard to compare. The TH has this one kind of tone, which is really good in the band-context, not so much as a standalone. The Mesa really gives me great options to form and find my personal tone though. It‘s huge, warm, clear, tight and punchy.

I played Ampeg for years but wanted to change my sound. I think I found it now with the Mesa. I play it with my two Aguilar DB112s and really like the tone. The Aguilars add a kind of round, warm vintage note, punchy and seem to tame the beast a bit, which I like btw.

I wonder though how the Mesa Subway Cabs would compare to the DB112s - anyone tried both? Sadly, the Mesas are super costly in Germany, it‘s around 1260$ for a single 112 Subway while the Aguilars cost around 860$ - and this difference is a bit crazy, seems to be a huge importer-surcharge: both cabs cost nearly the same in the US and I‘m not sure if it will increase the sound THAT much.

One of our guitarplayers is a Mesa-head and he suggested to change the tube. Obviously thats what guitarplayers often do with their Mesas Anybody tried that with the WD 800 already?

I use mine with an Aguilar GS 112, a darker cab I am told. I like it. I can get other sounds out of it with the WD 800 other than just the buttery deep tone the GS's are known for so, that's something :) but, that doesn't help you :(

My 2 cents...if you are happy with your Aguilars...keep using them....I believe they are great cabs and blew my mind when used with the DB751...I think you would have a great rig there
But...Gas is gas....and that monster is very hard to tame

Same pricing situation here in Japan. I got lucky; found a nice used SW 115 for a very good price. :) I haven't compared with the 112 or the Aquilar SL so I can't help with that, sorry. I wouldn't change the tube(s) if you are happy with the way it sounds though.
