WD unless you really need a new axe. WD sounds fantastic with anything I've put through it.

I think it's more important to have the right bass, then a very suitable amp.

I played the prototype with my Warwick Fortress 1 (active - 93 German made model), Music Man Sterling (active - US made), and Warwick Corvette Standard (passive - last German made model) and they all sounded great. The head worked equally seamlessly with every speaker cab I threw at it. The bottom line in my review was that the head is in no way a limiting factor for picking basses or cabs to build your ideal set-up.

Do you already have a Dingwall? I think the choice comes down to whether or not you're trying to fill gaps that exist or just want to try something different. Everyone's situation is different.

Well, now fess up. How did you like it?

I have finally had the opportunity to study the wd800 and I like it. It is definitely responsive. I love how I can go from clean to overdriven just with the force of my plucking hand. I like to ride that fine line where I get to control the amount of overdrive and saturation without touching the amp. I love how it sounds w the eq flat... although the eq can really get anyone to where they wanna go. I love the high pass filter u can really make your instrument more articulate without loosing any balls. holy crap it’s loud and I’m only using a subway 115 ... but at low volumes it still sounds great (told my wife this is a practice amp) which is not a lie...I practice on all my amps and this one is in my living roomHaven’t explored the damping much but can’t wait to see what it does on my traditional 8x10 compared w the subway 115 (I still believe nothing in the world can top my Mesa Strategy w a traditional 8x10 tho). It is crazy light weight also.....the gain control on the dw800 is the game changer ...pow... hope this helped

Right there with ya. I like it set right before breakup, and it snarls when I dig in.

Earlier in the thread I mentioned not caring for the overdrive at high gain settings. But I just didn't set other levels correctly. With lower output pickups and the gain knob dimed, roll back the TREBLE to about 10:00, low DAMPING...fantastic. I think if I was in one of those heavy, volume-is-our-livelihood, "stoner" blues rock bands, that setting and four 15s would destroy everything. (But my tinnitus is already bad enough.)

I'd go and play that Dinger.....if it speaks to you, go that route. A WD800 that sounds & feels virtually exactly like every other one will be available for a price for years to come, but a bass that "does it" can be hard to find....juss my .02

That’s what i’d like to do, but I can’t try the dingwall I have to order it. I’m waiting for my dealer to receive its first wd-800. I am the first in-line for it

WD800 #116 Arrived. I contacted Mesa Hollywood about the included footswitches, and the quick humble response was "The first couple of heads had the 'surprise bonus', a mistake which the factory quickly figured out, and is no longer".
First impression is this amp is capable of big round bottom end to pristine highs. I have the other 2 well known 800 heads and I am usually boosting to get my good sound. With the WD800 I am find myself cutting more than boosting it seems. Makes my Hather 1203s sound bigger than they ever have. I tend to boost 1K to increase my ability to cut though if needed and here I can get 1K out of all 3 of the parametric filters, so depending what else I need I can utilize the 1K in the other filters. That's flexible and also gives me a foundation to not get too overwhelmed by all the flexibility. They seem to be linear, so I can find 1K just by doing the math I think.

I am looking into purchasing either the D800+ or WD800. From the very few sound clips i've heard on Youtube, think the warmth of the WD800 is much nicer when played on its own vs. the D800's. My question is, I play in a cover band. We play Mostly 90's Alternative Rock/Metal, our bands characteristics are more on the the Metal side as a whole. Will the WD800 be able to be as punchy & articulate as say a M6 in the high power dampening setting?

I am looking for a nicely detailed punchy bottom end with warm lowmids with clean bright highs. I would say 90% of my playing is with a Nylon Pick, then 10% of play I cut my active pickups treble and use tortex picks for rounder tone or fingers depending on the rhythm section (i'm assuming switching to Deep setting or to Low dampening would be my mistress for that 10% of play).

I currently use a Ampeg SVT410HE cab with a Acoustic B-200H (great head for 200$, but time to move on up & Keep it as my back up) My Guitarist uses a EVHIII and a 2x12 with V30's (Slightly scooped mids, punchy bottom from the 6L6 Tubes and not to sharp highs) Our Vocalist is a Tenor... I am thinking the warmth of the WD800 would be better then the D800 to help fill out the mids in the bands soundscape but will the Tube Preamp be to loose for locking with tight drumming?
