I haven't listened to the new album yet but I did see them a few weeks back, and they certainly have the most brutal sound and visual I have experienced from any band ever (I have seen a lot of heavy bands). When I walked out of the show my drummer and I both reported that we felt shell shocked. Don't know if that is a good thing but it was certainly a new experience.
I do appreciate what Meshuggah does but it isn't really my thing. I saw them in hopes that the live show would change my mind but it didn't. I probably would not see them again live.
If you are into good for you because they most certainly are some unbelievable musicians and they have some vision. That vision is just not something interests me.

Glad you gave it a whirl...I can understand how it's not everyone's cup of tea though.
Thing is, if I want melody I'll go for some Staley/Cantrell material. For me, Meshuggah is all about rhythm and groove. And maybe it's the Maths geek in me that has me constantly trying to figure out what the hell time signature they are using and smiling to myself when I think I've finally got it, only to find myself half a step out and losing it totally! How the five of them manage to deliver live without EVER missing a beat...well its just awesome.
I swear I think I heard the drummer slip up twice during the show.

While I've never quite been able to get into Nile, there's no denying that George Kollias is one bad mofo. I'm a huge Derek Roddy fan too and he's the whole reason I bought Black Seeds.
