New model from Carvin - retro

Bob C, thank you.
I just called Carvin. Eddie in ordering said they are taking orders now and are actually building some 5-string SB4000's (forgot to ask if they will be SB4000s or SB5000s).
Since I live less than an hour's drive, I asked if I could demo one. I then spoke with Lou in the showroom: they're waiting on a few parts for the 5-strings...he thinks they may be a couple of weeks away from having a demo on their factory showroom floor.
Price of the 5-string: $899.00.

Here's a real nice sound clip.

I'm wondering what the difference is between the J9A pups, and the J99s that came on my LB20. (no pictures yet due to no amp yet. I'm waiting til I can tell you how it sounds, but it's a real nice bass).

Of course, it would have been nice if my knowledgeless salesman mentioned the J9As, or the SB4000 for that matter. They announced the thing less than a week after I ordered my LB.

Still waiting on mine. The postcard I received from Carvin a month ago states that mine should be finished this coming Tuesday (Aug. 18th). So I am assuming if they stay on schedule that I will be receiving either a phone call or e-mail asking for the 80% balance that I need to pay before shipping, which I will pay immediately. If all that goes off on time, probably next week I'll get it. :D :bassist:

Cool...:)

Looking forwards to a review.

The more I learn about the SB's, the more enticing they are. My main bass for 4 years was a beautiful greenburst LB75F that now (in my country act) never get's out on stage because of it's appearance (very '90's). If I had the cash, I would very likely replace it with a frettless SB5000. Maple/Ash, Ebony board, sunburst, with case for about 1100 bucks, can't beat that!

I love Carvin build quality, and it's long overdue for them to enter the ever-popular super-J arena. With the new higher Fender pricing, I wouldn't be surprised to see alot of folks opting for an SB. I'm also really glad to see that those of us who's gigs require a more traditional looking instrument can finally give Carvin a second look.

Anyone know if Carvin is considering offering this as a kit someday?

Just an update for anyone waiting for theirs. Mine was supposed to be done today and I just called in to check on the status. They said there was a slight delay but that "it should be done next Monday". So that is six days behind schedule if they were accurate with that statement. I paid the balance anyway so that there is no delay once that it is ready to ship. I'll update here again once that I receive notice from Carvin that it has been shipped. Gettin' eager.

Just received my new bass today. Everything is great. Just gave it a 5-minute demo. After it gets accustomed to this climate I'll give it a little setup, then use it at a couple gigs this weekend. No way I can give a real review from playing it at home. You never know what a bass sounds like until it is played within context of a band. I'll post a few pics later.

The options came out great. Everything exactly as ordered. Not sure if it was a mistake or a bonus, but they added the hand guard/pickup cover that is offered as an option, but I didn't order it. They probably threw it in there as a bonus as it does look good. Not sure if I'll keep it though since it gets in the way of my playing, but it is a nice touch.
