EBMM has just dropped news of their new BFR Stingray - and they are going all-in for the retro-minded among us. It looks nice enough, but... meh. It's almost a straight reprise of the Old Smoothie: Ernie Ball Music Man BFR Nitro StingRay Retro '76 Bass Guitar - '76 Burst

What do you all reckon?

This is Nothing Like a Smoothie, Ernie Ball Had done an amazing Job on this Bass, after owning 30 Original 76,77,and 78's this Bass KILLS.

No NOT A CLASSIC at all, 100% as close to a real 1976 Stingray as there ever will be, and Half the price or a Real one with a Bad Neck.

I think the price is great for what it is: lacquer finish, long pole pickup, all accurate details.

A real 76 radio knob is well over double that. The Cliff StingRay was insane priced for not being a vintage item. And you're still under most 77-79 vintage Rays.

Only 100 being made. So I reckon a lot of people will not have any experience with this bass at all.

I say meh. I’ve never been a member of the cult of nitro. In my mind, painting technology has improved a lot since 1950. But, if MusicMan can charge more for an inferior finish by cashing in on consumer longing for some weirdly mythic past, well, more power to ‘em. I’ll just keep rocking my 2015 SR.

The neck is completely pre-EB(bullet, skunk stripe, 3-bolt attachment). That's a real thing!
