New Nickelback album

Also, why haven't I seen hate threads on AC/DC if the big gripe is that the songs are all the same?

Maybe because the internet didn't exist 25-30 years ago when they were still relevant? Just a thought.

Honestly, Nickelback falls into that catagory of music that is intentionally bland in order to appeal to the widest group of people possible. In that search for mass appeal most anything resembling self-identity in the music seems to get lost. It just sounds intentionally non-threatening, uninteresting, middle of the road, and boring to me.

Believe what you will but I can honestly say that personal integrity would prevail if I were asked to join a mind-numbingly sh*tty band like Nickelback. I'd rather never play bass again.

please don't let not being asked to join Nickelback or such type of band stop you. Let personal integrity soar like an eagle.

Please show us your awesome band. I'm sure we'll be impressed with the quality and originality of your work.

Get off your pedestal.

It has nothing to do with what "awesome" band I'm in and I'm really sorry to have threatened your weak little mind, dude. It's just that when someone makes a sort of "everyone has their price" or (something stupid along those lines), I like to stand up for those who would rather remain true to themselves. I guess there's something wrong with that, though. I'll be sure to try harder at keeping all of you "impressed".

See you when your band rolls through my town on tour. I'll be the one right up front wearing a Nickelback shirt and wishing I was you. Oh wait...

There are very few albums that I consider "perfect."

None of Nickelback's stuff even comes close.

But I'll take the "mind-numbingly bland" radio singles for the two or three songs on each album that are really good - at least that's consistent, IMO. And, if making popular songs is what's important to these guys, then so be it. We all play music for different reasons - and I can't think of a single Chad Kroeger interview (not that I've watched all that many, ;)) where he talks about his artistic integrity.

And, having done some small-time session stuff, I can only begin to fathom the kind of pressure the label and producers put on them for that next hit... "You know what would sound great there? Another "C-G-A" progression, like on that last song, sort of" type thing.

I'm not in the guys shoes, but I prefer them over FOB or any of those other wanna be emo bands that have... gasp... integrity.

YMMV, IMO, all that stuff.

I get what you're saying, and I agree that if they wanna write pop songs then good for them. I'm just answering the question "why do people hate on nickelback?" Also, I consider stuff like FOB and Nickelback to be in the exact same category of mindless pop music.

btw, I like plenty of "simple" music, I just don't like glorified comercials and a lot of pop music just sounds like product jingles to me... canned, thoughtless, and made specifically to sell something.

I just love this continued bull-sxxx argument about "artistic integrity" and what not. Give me a break. So many armchair quarterbacks around here.

Chad writes catchy rock songs, he's perfected a certain style and sound for him, that's his art unto itself, catchy Rock and fxxxxxxx Roll songs.

It just so happens that millions of people dig it as well and can relate to what the fellas play.

So why doesn't everyone take their pompous "artistic integrity" (and the like) arguments for a long walk off a short plank.

the ability to write an insanely catchy "popular" song is no lesser or greater an artistic achievement than writing some obscure P.O.S. song that a handful of like minded head-up-their-back-passage snobs think is sheer genius.

See, but your last paragraph shows that you have your own musical prejudices that you proudly paste on these forums.

A lot of people dislike the intentionally bland style of pop-music, for many of us is extremely irritating to listen to. Deal with it. However, I do agree the "artistic integrity" arguement is a bit weak, since art is in the eye of the beholder. Otoh, some people wanna look at an original Picasso, other people are happy with a Thomas Kinkaid print. Both are valid, but different none-the-less

Either way it's the internet and we all have opinions. I would say mine and everyone elses here are just as valid as yours. My opinion is that Nickelback writes lame jingles and a lot of people like it because it's bland and doesn't require any level of participation from the listener, it almost begs to be ignored. Most people aren't huge music people, they just want some sound in the background that's super simple, goes 1-2-3-4 over and over again, and ocassionally says something mildly amusing. Nickelback (along with many other pop bands) provide that for them.

I'm equally up there with my head up my own back passage when it comes to thinking some fairly obscure stuff is genius.

my whole point in this thread is that the OP posted how he likes the new CD and then the usual dog pile of those ,with valid opinions of their own, chime in to slag it.

I'm merely chiming back at how I have an opinion as well, and it is opposed to theirs. big whoop. but because they simply go on ad nauseum as to how "sh*tty" of a band Nickelback is then I'll go on ad nauseum as to how Chad and the boys are full of integrity and kick a**.

simple as that.

so don't feel the need to further the "we all have opinions" rhetoric, it's understood. what should be understood around here is that it's ok to have differing opinions, especially to challenge each others differing opinions.

btw, intentionally bland... if the music bugs you so much then why you wasting your time reading and commenting on it? somewhat moronic no?

Certainly a well argued point, but didn't the OP ask for opinions?

p.s. I certainly wouldn't say I'm "wasting my time" here, I'm enjoying the conversation.

The weak mind here, "dude" is yours. You're a small minded music snob.

I should learn to not have a battle of wits with the unarmed.
