Hi there. I wanted to start a thread to feature guys who are not as high profile as Gary Willis, Jimmy Johnson, Tom Kennedy, Jeff Berlin, Alain Caron etc and who have maybe emerged in the past few years who can play over changes well.

thought i was the only one who knew about Mike..i thought for a long time he was just a CT blues player until I saw him destroy fusion, jazz, funk at an open mic. He is one of the best this state has to offer for sure, humble nice guy too

not too many people celebrate Charles Meeks from Chuck Mangione's band, but this is a really fun track to (try to) play.
I find it really difficult!

Thanks ...also new to me. Nice chops, feel and groove though he seems to be more of a funk/jam band type player; I don't hear him playing changes (or implying them over vamps) in the clips I found. Any examples?

Henrik I have heard many times though I don't know if I have heard too much from him in more changes-heavy contexts; any suggestions?

Ale William Sjöström I just happened to hear recently as he was playing with perhaps the most blatant Mike Stern clone I have ever heard (Steffen Brix) and I sent the clip to a friend for that reason:

Michel Alibo of Sixun is some sort of certifiably, genuine bass god currently alive in the flesh. But good luck finding any Sixun music in the USA!

Then there's Etienne Mbappe. He's also the complete and utter bass BOMB!!!!!

I know Etienne well and Michel Alibo I mentioned right in the first post. I actually like Michel's playing even more and think he is way too underrated but I don't think of him as obscure or new at this point...at least I hope he isn't

this album is a pretty good representation of their overall sound. Lots of funk, with prog rock overtones and Steely Dan on steroids.

I didn't even think of mentioning him because he is not new and also pretty far from obscure. I saw Jonas play in the early 80s (i.e. over 30 years ago) with John McLaughlin which is as high profile as it gets for this genre.

I think you can see from my OP that I'm looking for people who haven't been on the cover of Bass Player etc.
