Thierry Fanfant, a French West-Indian, making a living playing behind French pop singers, but his solo performances under his own name are rather great. Don't forget either Dudu Lima, a Brasilian Bass/double bass player.

One late new entry - still a Swede - comes forth at a mere 17 year old: Sebastian Näsström (anglicized Sebastian Nasstrom) just starting to make waves in certain places. On YouTube he's called Papa Groove. Funk/fusion with pop/thumb/slapping as his primary vehicle.

Alain Caron has been around forever, but a lot of folks in the US don't know about him...I guess maybe because he's from Canada. Probably my favorite jazz bassist.
