excuse my ignorance but does the Cab sim negate any reason for a HPF aswell?

    Not necessarily. It could though.

Depends on what your HPF does and how you use it. Most cab sims will incorporate some type of HPF, but it may not filter at the same slope or cutoff frequency as yours.

What is the difference between the Mini and the Deluxe versions of the CabSim?

Well, I finally got it. Just plugged it in for a bit with both bass and guitar... Maybe 15 minutes on each, which isn't really enough time to truly get to know her.

I can say that I was surprised at how good it sounded with my Stratocaster! I really didn't think that it would do much for that instrument but the tonal differences between the stack and combo settings is remarkable.

With my bass (again, I didn't really have much time to experiment), it seemed like all I could really get was different types of scooped tones. I could add highs to it with the texture, and a little bass with the resonance but not mids. I'll play with it some more tomorrow though and dig into the controls a little deeper.

In any case, the real test will be when I'm on stage... Bedrooms are not the best place to get a real sense of what gear can do, imo.

Just got back from a gig with a funk/rock cover band... The venue provided backline tonight. It was a Traynor head and an Ampeg 4x10 cab. I plugged the OCSM in as the DI instead of using the one that was provided by the venue, set the switch to "thru" to the amp, and gave the sound guy a heads up. I had planned to use my jazz bass tonight, but ended up just using my Warwick for the whole show.

The stage sound was surprisingly low tonight, which is always good. This allowed me to keep the amp at a reasonable volume so I could hear myself and also get a bit of an idea of what the OSCM was sending out to the FOH.

I gotta say, the OSCM sounded GREAT to my ears!! During teardown I asked the sound guy what he thought, and he said that he couldn't tell that it wasn't an amp, that it sounded better than the amp's DI and that the low end was massive (I think I'll pull back the resonance a bit for the next show). I told him that I'd been testing the device for some upcoming casino gigs and he said that I should keep it because it sounds great.

I think I'll take his advice. This little guy is a winner, for sure! Thank you @Dsmnoisemaker for this very cool device - from both me and the audience, who danced their faces off all night long!

One thing - the output volume was pretty low, compared to the amps DI. I had to goose it a little bit to give him a good level... Here's a pic of my settings tonight:

I have not but the one thing I know for sure is that what would be the ''punch" knob on the deluxe, is set internally to 75%. This is effectively the midrange control, so there's a bit of a high mid scoop in the mini. It's not a large scoop by any means, and when using my Warwick - which is a very mid-forward sounding bass - it's not really that noticable when solo'd and a complete non-issue when in a mix with other instruments.

Anyone else have one and care to chime in?

I've had one since they were released, and two things really bother me:
-I have the level cranked and it's barely unity.
-There is an audible hiss when the pedal is turned on.

Both are quite annoying as this is mostly for recording applications.

I have a replacement on the way, as DSM was very cool to offer. That's great customer sevice!

However, since I can't get to it for another month I was wondering if anyone else experienced this.

  15. Mine has an audible hiss as well. Not sure why or what the scoop is.

Mine has no hiss. Just as a matter of "troubleshooting 101," have you guys tried the ground/lift switch?

  17. Mine does hiss too and also the LED on the bypass is intermittent. Also the 1/4inch clean/cab sim switch also wasn't functioning great but some contact cleaner sorted that and I'll try again with the switch.

Overall though, I like it alot and did a video before the switch went funny.

  18. Yeah fixed it when using the di but still hisses with the 1/4 out when set to be affected

    Thanks for the input, guys!
I guess I'll find out when I can A/B with the replacement unit.
Oh, and yes, the hiss is on the 1/4 out (that's how I'm mostly using it).
Tried the ground lift, tried different power supplies... nada.

i asked this in the main OCSM thread, but when set to "thru" how loud is the 1/4" output and does the level control still affect it?
