Mostly just re-releasing stuff from the past, but that baritone looks interesting. But chances of a local retailer having one to check out are slim to none, & this is definitely not something to buy sight unseen. Thoughts?

Gibson designs look really cool imho but don't translate well to bass ergonomically which is very important to me. Plus they are too pricey for me. I do enjoy looking at them though.

I'd love it if they'd do an 8 string explorer- I assume Gibson put the kibosh on the old Hamer 12 string in the Explorer design.

I really wish gibson had offered a natural finish on the limited (400 units) short scale thunderbirds! I have a black jaguar, i dont want another black bass.

The Flying V looks fantastic, it has all the right stuff, mahogany & TB pickups, it should sound great for once. Not many V basses by any manufacturer are known for their great tone.

They both have T-Bird pickups and Mahogany bodies that are relatively the same shape, the only real difference is the neck.
Let's be serious, the Silverburst just looks tacky.
I don't know about these man, I feel a bit let down by these models.
In saying that though, I've never been overly impressed by a Gibson bass.

I was in Sam Ash on 48th st about 2 weeks ago and saw one of the Vs hanging on the wall. It must have just come in because there was no tag on it. Looks great in person, but I didn't try it out.

If you are a Tbird player and want something with the same vibe, but a bit different...that Explorer would seem to fit the bill...
...agree that the silverburst is a bit "Epi-ish"...I'd like to see a regular mahogany finish, maybe white...
The glue-in neck is different than a standard Tbird, which is neck thru (but the non-reverse bird is glue-in)
As far as Gibsons being a let-down, you either appreciate them, or you don't. No, they don't fit the mold of your standard P or J bass (I have both) but have a unique feel & sound of their own. If you're willing to work with them, without pre-conceived notions on tone & how they feel against your body, they are very cool, and sound great (IMO).

...don't know if I could ever get used to a V-bass, however. My guitarist uses a Gibson V, and every part of it (besides the neck) feels wrong to me. To each his own in that dept...

I love the look of the Expoorer but it is a bit out there for the classic rock, blues and funk I play.

The V is cool but I am not a fan of short scale basses.

I just picked up a new LP oversized bass which I absolutely love, so I have my Gibson fill for now!

Gibson has it's share of issues. I love the look of their instruments, but most of them are too uncomfortable to play. The Explorer and Flying V look great, but try playing them on your lap

I have to say, I'm pretty floored by the Flying V bass. The chrome pickups, with the white pickguard against the cherry body just looks awesome, very classy. My only beef with gibson currently is that they use the TB pickups in everything, and since I already have a Thunderbird, I can't really justify buying another new gibson. However, this is a really cool looking bass, better than the LP Junior DC (it looks so very off, they should have stuck with the original body design and black pickguard).

So, things I want to see:
Proper reissue of the EB-3 (w/ vintage spec pickups)
NR Thunderbird with chrome pickups
Thunderbird, but back to vintage asthetics, as in chrome pups and hardware.
