New Orange OBC410 break in

Hi,

I just got myself an Orange OBC410 cab and I need to break it in. I would like to know whether I can do this by simply connecting my ipod to the back and playing something through it at a low volume for a few hours.

If so, which input should I use?

I don't know, but I would be worried about burning out the iPod by doing that. I think you could fry the output amplifier that way. They are designed to put a few hundred milliwatts into earbuds or headphones, which are typically about 32 ohm impedance, I think? If you run that teeny tiny amp into a 4 or 8 ohm cab, it's going to kill itself trying to put out enough power for you to hear it.

That's why iPod docking stations have an additional amplifier to run the speakers--iPod isn't designed to run speakers at audible levels.

You need to find some kind of a power amp that is designed to work with a low impedance load (like a speaker cab). Don't you have a bass head? Run your iPod (or your bass) through that.

Thanks Ed, so rather than connecting the ipod directly into the cab, I can just plug it into the guitar input on the amp and let it run? Don't know why I didn't think of that before...makes a lot more sense!
