New Origin Effects DCX Bass

That would be great, thank you.

Btw: my understanding is that the adaptive cicuitry is active in the EQ mode...?
Only able to speak of the DCX. In eq mode with drive around or past noon it responds really well to digging in with a fine grit. I prefer its eq grit over its od. The HF and LF controls further refines the drive.

I can’t really do a direct comparison as my DCX is packed away. The DCX is more transparent, the Gold colours the sound even when the drive is turned down (at least for some Adapt settings). Gold is also more mids heavy. DCX is (unsurprisingly) a better bass overdrive, and I’d recommend the Halcyon Green over the Gold. But the Gold works better than the M-EQ, which can lose a lot of low end.

Thanks for this, you just saved me a couple hundred and change. I have the DCX Bass that I use in OD mode for moderate gain, and I was wondering if with the clean blend dial, one of the Halcyon pedals might retain more punch at moderate gain. It sounds like that probably isn't the case.

I really do like the DCX Bass, so at this point it's just GAS.

They work great together. I’m using a Para EQ II Deluxe and a DCX together and I’m very much liking the combination.
Just catching up on this thread for research porpoises.

I’m looking at sticking a DCX in between an Empress compressor and para EQ deluxe. Are you still liking the DCX and EQ?

I’m enjoying the flexibility of the the Empress EQ (especially the high pass and low pass filters) but my clean sound feels like it’s missing something. I’m wondering the DCX could help with a little vibe.

I have the BassRig SV for a more driven sound as and when needed but I’m struggling a little for a nice clean tone.

My go to’s are:

Bassrig 15/Empress Comp or the Bassrig SV/DCX or Jive V1.

I got rid of the Bass Para EQ. Couldn’t get over the harshness. Have regular para (non-bass) incoming.

Like the SV/DCX (studio) SV/Jive (live) for most things. The Fifteen/Empress comp is so good too.

I like the DCX with the Bass ParaEQ.

I’d try it both before and after the comp, it’s really touch sensitive, so putting it out front takes advantage of that.

My basic chain is buffer > DCX (EQ mode, switch @ Med, lots of HF) > all the drives > Compressor > Bass ParaEQ > Finally DI.

With the DCX on the edge of breakup with lots of treble it’s really great feeding the rest of the drives, and increases the feeling of their touch sensitivity.

Then I do all my low end reinforcement and EQ sculpting after the drives. The ParaEQ + Finally is acting as my preamp.

Thanks folks.

I’m planning something like this snapshot - the open slot on the switcher is to patch in another small synth board (OC2 - Mastotron - Proton - [probably a chorus]).

I’ve just rejigged to move the comp to the front of the chain. It’ll probably stay there for now so that I can try using the DCX (or the boost on the EQ) -> BassRig push trick that @Origin_Effects showed in their Tech Tips.

I’m hoping I can get a “Motown” drive sound out of the DCX too. Something on the spectrum between “Uptight” and “What’s Going On”

Right on.

I always hit the comp first and the Bassrig last. DCX before the Bassrig.

The DCX in dark mode with the treble all the way off does a great Motown direct tone. The dials on origins pedal are much more subtle than most any other brand so turning them all the way up/down is all very usable.

Check out @thehorizonproject.music on instagram for lots of DCX into the Para EQ. Good stuff.

I've been using the DCX for a while now, both in EQ and OD modes. I like what it does, but it would be really really great if Origin released a lightweight version. Such a brick.
I think those hefty custom enclosures are a part of their unique brand identity! I agree with you, but don't see it happening.

I’d love to see Origin do a DCX variant that adds a DI, and perhaps an OD footswitch. Or maybe a Neve clone or something to compete with the Noble. They are so locked into amp recreations that a high end bass DI doesn’t seem in the calculus. Well, except for the DCX.

Gemini ai is telling me that it’s ok to run the dcx bass with a line level input. It’s even suggesting I operate it at 12v for that input level. Looking for human confirmation. Thx.
The manual (which is available via a button on this page) says 9V only:

“NOTICE!

Damage to device if powered incorrectly!

This product is designed to be powered from a 9VDC, >90mA power supply with 2.1mm centre-negative barrel connector. Use of an incorrectly rated power supply could result in damage to the pedal and the power supply.”
