New Origin Effects DCX Bass

After all the good comments, I wonder if the DCX could be for me. In my ampless setup, I run a Cali76 as always-on pedal through a few effect pedals, then a GEB-7 to beef up slightly, but only when using my Jazz bridge pickup, then into an Xotic BB-Preamp, to get a little Ampeg hair when needed, into an (a little bit boring) MXR M81 always-on for toneshaping my general clean sound. Then the DI goes directly to the FoH.
Would it make sense to leave the M81 neutral, plainly using it as a DI, the DCX for shaping my general clean tone in EQ mode and keep the BB preamp for just that little bit of grit when playing rock? Would you place the BB-preamp before or after the DCX?
Thanks for your thoughts :)

I run two OE DCXBASS pedals in my signal chain. The first one as a tone shaper (in EQ mode) right before the OE Cali76 and the second one later on in the chain as an overdrive (in OD mode). Either way, this pedal sounds fabulous, I think.
I have room for another pedal on my board and thought about some sort of device (pedal) to either push my OE DCXBASS in OD mode or have it push maybe another overdrive/distortion/preamp pedal (with a tube).

So now I'm curious as to what some of you guys suggest.

Thanks! P@

Check this out

I love mine

Played a great acoustic gig this week with a small board selection, mostly OE pedals and a touch of reverb, with my acoustic Furch through a Phil Jones Cub Pro for stage volume and straight to DI. The combination of OE pedals is great with an acoustic instrument and they really enrich the signal. It sounded great, very full and articulate, both onstage and from the audience. The DCX EQ shines in particular with passive and acoustic instruments, IMO. The sound engineer was very happy and complimentary of the tone.

Just curious, when running your Bassrig are you taking an XLR line out or are you doing a 1/4” out? Thx.

Giving attention to the load my DCX adds to the signal when switched off.
Manual states, "High quality buffered bypass", but I hear a mild high end roll off, not so unlike a Lightning Boy 2020i transformer.

Similar observations?

I’d say the only way to know for sure is to put it in a true-bypass loop and compare the buffered bypass with bypassing it entirely.

My guess is that you’re probably picking up on some subtle harmonic enrichment from the active circuit being removed when bypassed.

That's how I discovered it in an unbuffered bypass pedal, and you're probably correct about that.

Don’t have the DCX, but the ‘64 and Super Vintage definitely compromises the highs and open airiness of my passive instruments. (Moollon PV/JV, Roscoe Beck 5, Fenders) even bypassed. I would imagine the DCX is no different.

Not always a bad thing, but have to pick when and where to use em.

George L patch cables help with the highs and openness too.

I guess that's caused in part by the 1 M Ohm input on each.

The DCX is sensitive to its placement in an effects chain, but that may be true of drives and eqs in general. Find its sweet spot and it's an excellent tone enhancer.

I don't own DCX Bass myself (yet), but all this talk about adaptive circuitry reminds me the way how my Nobels ODR (mini) reacts to dynamics. With light touch, it sounds full range (with clean highs), but when I dig-in it starts to saturate in the mids while the highs are being attenuated (at least to my ears).

Can somebody, who has experience with both pedals, confirm my understanding?

I haven't messed around with the DCX in OD mode yet, but at our next rehearsal I was planning on swapping it into my medium-gain slot to give it a proper chance. I've used the ODR-mini there as well, and I can slot it in to try them back to back.
