New Origin Effects DCX Bass

When you receive the pedal,,you’ll realize that the knob indicator is actually a bottomless open (deep) channel—there’s no surface to sand. I was surprised myself. : )

But no need to work that hard…take a (metallic silver) Sharpie permanent marker, start at the circle edge and carefully drag it in the groove to the center of the knob. You’ll have a silver “double line” that matches the silver double line on the pedal top plate. My lines are metallic silver, not white…like the silver lines on the pedal.

[EDIT/add] Not sure, but in case this is your first OE pedal (and use Barefoot Buttons)…you’ll need the “big bore” size (not V1 or V2)…

Wow ok, didn't for a moment think the slot would be cut all the way through - there goes that idea!

Thanks for the heads up on the barefoot buttons, unlikely I will use them I think.

The DCX is much better than the HX Teemah, IMHO. And the blend is not an issue because the bass control on the DCX is so splendid. It would be sort of like asking for a clean blend on a console preamp......
For having tested the DCX for 10 days trying to like it. With my dingwall, zero interest. OD or preamp. I much prefer the Teemah with the split signal of the stomp. With my pb, it's better but I prefer the dynamics of the stomp in the V4B. Same as the cali76 V2 returns... the V1 is really better to my ears and my needs.
It's the kind of pedal that I would have dragged around for 1 month or 2 months thinking that it brings the magic sauce... then I would have sold it by losing money.

Proud new owner of a DCX. The Cali76 > DCX > Bassrig combo is all it’s cracked up to be, I’m very impressed. Sounds excellent with a short scale passive bass strung with flats. My usual amp setup is a Broughton Super Stack > GSS Baby Sumo > Ampeg 2x12, but in an effort to simplify things I’m just using an Aguilar TH700 into the 2x12 - the Super Stack felt like EQ overkill when mixed with the Origin stuff, and the Aggie set flat is doing the trick. Brought this setup to its first rehearsal last night with great results. My only regret is buying the SV Bassrig instead of the 64 - I’m more of a Bassman guy than SVT. Might have to have both. On topic - with the DCX, believe the hype.

Yes, the bass boosted to 2 o’clock it just the perfect vintage warm sound and why it pairs so well with a passive P.

With active basses it’s boosting something that’s already boosted and doesn’t come across as good.

Has anyone tried the regular DCX Boost (non-bass version) with bass? Asking for a friend :bag:
I have the Boost (bought because I wasn’t sure if I would use it on bass or guitar, but it’s ended up back on my bass board), have been playing with it the last few days (P with flats) and it sounds great, description wise I would say it matches up with how others are describing the bass version. Origin said the main differences are a slight difference in the EQ points (but not huge differences and a very similar LF) and slight gain stage tweaks. I know someone else here had the Boost version and didn’t realise for a while and were really happy with it! Without comparing side by side it’s difficult to know how much difference there is but I would think it would be small enough that you probably wouldn’t pick it out in a mix. YMMV of course!

Plus 1 to what @Stellvia said. I bought the DCX Boost in November 2023 by mistake, thinking it was the DCX Bass. It’s been on my gig board ever since. FWIW, though, I’ve never tried the DCX Bass, so I can’t comment on how they might sound in a shootout. But the technical differences that Origin described were not earth-shattering (e.g., bass eq centers differed by 1 Hz)

Experimenting with placement during my rare opportunities to do so these days. I mainly use it in drive mode, as I really struggle to find bass drives I like…this is one of the few. A bit of downstream compression and harmonics from a tube helps add character and tighten things up to a degree. I’m considering filling in the indicators on the DCX knobs (or changing them over completely) as my eyes struggle to make out the settings in low light…the blackout version of the DCX is a sexy beast, but practical considerations will win out I think.
I’ve used natural(off-white) mini chicken head knobs on all of my black pedals. The knobs are far enough apart so as to not interfere with one another, yet extremely easy to see even on a dark stage.

Not sure if something changed recently... or possibly where the Origin Effects pedal was purchased. I use Barefoot Buttons on all my pedals, and for me...

DCX Bass - fits the "V1" Size Barefoot Button (Purchased late February from Germany - Thomann)
Cali76 v2 - fits the "Big Bore" Size Barefoot Button (Purchased May 2024 from Sweetwater)

Strange that the foot switch sizes aren't standard on Origin Effect's pedals.🤷‍♂️

I think you may have an unusual DCX Bass. (Or maybe I do?) Mine requires a big bore button, same as the Cali76 v1 I used to have. (Never tried buttons on my old Cali76 TX-L.)

I don't doubt I might have an unusual case... but most of my pedals fits the "V1" size. I test fitted one of my V1 buttons on my DCX Bass, and it fit's perfect. I took that same V1 button, and tried it on my Cali76... and it was too small. So strange that both Origin Effects pedals have different foot switch sizes. I asked another member (@projectapollo), and I think he had same size issue as me. We both bought our Origin Effects DCX Bass pedal from Thomann's... but I think he got his Cali76 from Germany also.
