DESTINED TO PLAY SO SO BASSES,

i think youre over reacting. im sure the store would refund the bass. if you really wanted this nice bass, it would just take a simple solder job. when you have a good bass, little problems like that arent really a bother once you fix em. im guessing if it wasnt messed up at the factory, then it was messed up during shipping.

You sent that to fender? I am guessing they will see the all caps and automatically delete it , that would be my reaction.

A solder could have come disconnected in shipment , most people who play for decades and gig out know a little routine maintainence, its like knowing how to change oil in a car.

I DID SEND THAT TO FENDER,1200 IS NOT ALOT OF MONEY TO SOME,BUT WHEN I PONY UP FOR AMERICAN QUALITY,I EXPECT TO GET IT.THEY WONT CARE ANYWAY-ILL TRY A REAL THUNDERBIRD THIS TIME AND SEE HOW THAT GOES.AS FAR AS GIGGING OUT,I HAD 2 OTHER BASSES THERE,IM JUST SAYING-IMAGINE THE FRUSTRATION OF BRINGING YOUR NEW BEAUTIFUL TOY,AND IT DOES NOT WORK

More then likely though its the manufacture you bought it from , they are tested to be working prior to shipping out/passing inspection-but its possible fender did do a bad soder job that popped off easier, i would say crack it open and see but it doesnt sound like you want to keep/deal with it.............if you got it from guitar center you can just bring it back to a store even if ordered online. Other companies will exchange it easy.

As for a t bird , i have owned 4 gibsons , I perfer it over a fender anyday but be prepared for neck dive-Also if you order from a online source like musiciansfriend you can get 10-15% off cake everytime, if you didnt know there is a guy who works at musiciansfriend that hooks up people on this forum regulary.

I understand you're upset. I can feel how you'd be so upset when you've been waiting for a bass for a long time and when you take it out nada... no sound... very frustrating.
But you're a bass player and when you write a letter to Fender you're also talking for other bass players who bought a defective Fender. So maybe you should use more technical descriptions and offer your opinion to Fender to watch their quality control a little better.
I'm sorry for you disappointment.
I liked the Tbirds but yea their necks dive and they're kind of clumsy to my hands.
In 1981 I bought an Ibanez Roadstar because the price was right and I got tired of dead spots on the neck, and I've owned many basses since then, Fenders, Gibsons, Hofners, etc. and I've always returned to the Ibanez because they're consistently excellent quality for the money. They get it right.
Fender should never have let an American Bass slip out of the factory with bad wiring. Bad Fender! Bad! lol
let us know what you end up doing.... what bass you finally end up keeping.... Good luck

I can understand your frustration and I don't mean to be the bearer of bad tidings but MIA QC is little different than it is in Mexico or China. In fact the Chinese models may even be better in some cases.

Every manufacturer will have a few lemons slip out the door or it may be as was suggested something that happened in shipment. A screwdriver and a few minutes of you time might give you an answer if you take a peak in the control cavity or the jack.

The only things that can take out a passive pickup is the wiring or the pickup is dead. I had that problem with a Fender product and after a little wrangling with them they did send me a new pickup. If you troubleshoot it you may see the problem and have the dealer repair it. Sounds to me like you would really like to have the bass.

I enjoyed this thread. It is frustrating when stuff breaks right out of the gate, but it does happen. My advice is to get it fixed. It's likely nothing huge.
