Seems like you have a black cloud following you. Your new bass doesn't work, your keyboard is broken.

Pretty sure that bass was working when it left QC at Fender. So now it doesn't work. Bad solder joint is probably the culprit. You are talking about a two minute repair.

This is not a big deal, stop wining and open up the bass and visually inspect to see if there is an obvious problem by wiggling all solder connections with the bass plugged in. When you hear bass come back to life, you found the problem,heat it with a soldering iron and you will back in business.

Want someone to cheer you up?? Get a puppy. Life's a bitch. :bawl:

Talkbass members hunt in packs, don't we?

The OP is blameless here (troll or not), and I've never heard of a solder joint breaking during shipping - not sure that is even possible. I have, on the other hand, heard of Fender shipping basses with bad pickups, and stores selling the same basses without making sure they work. But why should the OP have any expectation that his bass wouldn't make any sound at all right out of the box? Is that what you have come to accept from your favorite manufacturers?

Why is talkbass piling it on this guy? Because he made an unfortunate caps lock decision?

Ah yeah, how many people here take a brand new piece of equipment or bass to a gig without 1st dialing in a sound, or at least getting used to it? Maybe we can all send 25 cents to chip in for the new keyboard, then he can take the old one and whack the bass to get it jumpstarted.:crying:

Or maybe he likes to live on the wild side, untested Bass, untested keyboard:o

These days, paying ~$1200 for a Precision - just because it's MIA - is silly. But Fender gets away with it because there are people out there that don't think so. Kick me in the nuts if you will, but that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Dunno. Maybe he worked until five. During the day, the store called to say the bass he ordered had arrived. After work, he picked it up, went home to check in with the wife and kids, and then went to load in. Didn't have a chance to touch the bass yet, but was really excited about finally having a high quality, new Fender, so he took it to the gig. And then it didn't work. At all. Then he comes home and finds that one of the kids spilled their morning oj on the keyboard, and that will have to be dealt with after church.

That guy sounds like a real idiot/jerk to me.

Hey, let's lighten up on the [DEL]troll[/DEL] guy, maybe he got one of those MIA Fenders with the Noiseless type pickups. I hear they're really quiet:rolleyes:

To soften the kick in the nuts - I'm sure there are some on this thread that have been a little less than thrilled with the quality of the MIA they paid a premium price for (I'm one) and also a few people that have been thrilled with the unexpected high quality of the MIM or MIJ or MIC Fender/Squier they paid peanuts for (I'm one of these as well).
Not bangin Fenders, have plenty of 'em and will buy plenty more, but they are a try before you buy bass, not nearly the consistency in quality as a similar priced G&L or Musicman IMHO.

The problem is he came to TalkBass asking to be cheered up -

We Are Not Cheerleaders!

And we don't believe that his computer is stuck on Caps Lock

And we don't like the way he contacted Fender

In fact, we don't believe anything about this story -

This is the kind of feeding frenzy that trolls can expect, and I think he is getting exactly the response he was looking for!

The first time I did that, I couldn't get an update on the status for weeks. Finally, the told me they dropped a drill on it and damaged it. They said they owed me a replacement, and didn't want to let me see the bass. (I think they accidentally sold it.). Then they tried to replace it with a used or at least extremely shop worn instrument, which I refused. So I waited for them to get a new one from Fender.

When that one developed a neck problem, I took it to a different authorized repair center. It took about eleven months to get a replacemnt neck. When I got the bass back, it was almost unplayable because the nut was extremely high. I ended up doing that setup myself.

So, yeah, go with the authorized repair center option. That always goes well.
