I tend to dislike pickguards that cover up too much woodgrain. I approve of this. If I ever owned a Stingray it would look a lot like yours. Why a pickguard at all? Perhaps to protect the finish?
Also I wonder if the finish will age differently under the guard…
I'm sorry, but that vintage string- thru needs some love. I would put it back to metal control plate, and either knurled chome or the radio knobs. It deserves this!
And there is often quite nice grain, so I agree it is nice to have it exposed.
Though the PG was already removed when I got it, it did still have the chrome plate & radio knobs. But I changed those out decades ago for a black control plate & modified speed knobs. Originals are in the drawer.
