Double Bass New Pickup day! (Revolution Solo) Also help?

So I got the Revolution Solo from Upton Bass for my upright the other day. I needed a pickup for the wind ensemble I'm in, also since I'm soon going to be taking on all bass duties at the college (jazz included) Due to work I wasn't able to install it till today, but now I have a question.

While using the jack clip, the g string looks as though it is on such a weird angle, almost like its going to break. It seems as though maybe Upton should have used a bigger clip? Or will this not have any negative effects? It didn't change the sound or feel of the string, it just looks awkward sitting there at the weird angle. This isn't my bass, but how the g string ball end looks is what mine looks like right now:

Btw, on first install I had the RS facing upwards. Sounded woofy and trebley, with little or no definition. Flipped it around and it worked wonders. The sound of my bass, just amplified. I thought the 700RB-II would be to much, but it works out just perfectly. A volume pedal does wonders for dynamics and switching from bowing to pizz.

Well, the director was incredibly happy with the sound produced in wind ensemble, and the jazz director is looking forward to it tomorrow. I can crank it pretty loud before feedback, but I noticed going to arco the amp tends to get a little gritty and scratchy sounding. Any EQ pointers?

Some pickups definitely need to have the highs and or mids turned down for arco. If you are switching between pizz and arco too quickly to re-EQ, I guess just try to find a happy medium on the EQ.

I was fiddling around with the contour knob (basically a mid cut) and I think I might have found it. But it looses quite a bit of character when I go back to pizz.

Here's a pic of my bass with the Rev. Solo. The ball of the G-string is at a slight angle... certainly nothing severe. The guys at Upton fit the pickup and they placed a couple of felt washers under the ball.

As for the sound, I've never used, and likely never will use, a pickup such that I don't need any tonal shaping. If nothing else, that's also a function of the rig and the room it's in.
