I wrote to Pirastro for a info about Obligato and they tell me i can have a special offet for a Pirastro perpetual set at low price. That's all
Dave: Did you take them up on the offer? Obligato's are fine for a while...but they don't last very long. Unless you are hung up on synthetic core strings the Perpetuals are certainly worth trying. I am keeping mine. And from what I have seen on this thread you won't have any trouble selling them if they won't work for you.

I'm sorry but the Perpetual set is currently mounted on my NS-Design NXT and I must say that from now on they will be the only Pirastro that this double bass will use .. the right softness and touch .. and the sound I was looking for I found them in this set. I'll use them for a live jazz concert tonight in trio!

Not a "serious" arco player but i'll comment. After a 2 months they are about 10% easier to get a warm sound out of than spirocores, and the pizz is still spiro like. I think the low 2 strings will be a great option for orchestral jobs, just like spiros. The D is good, the G just slightly too bright.
I'd be happy playing these in a minor orchestral job more than spiro mediums, and I'd even consider after a few more months being ok subbing for an orchestra, like the LPO (done that twice, and chose belcantos over new spiros).
The flexibility under the bow is nice to me, more than spiro mediums, but they have more oomph than spiro lights. Not as thin.
Basically i'm saying throw them on the carved bass.
I would be interested in hearing a recording of that. Does the NS Design sound any more or less like an amplified DB with the Perpetuals? I don't own an EDB, and man are there times when I wish I did!

the EDB in my house is a necessity not a choice as the space is small. If I arrived with an acoustic at home, my wife slams me out, the double bass, and the two cats for good measure heheh.
Joking aside .. among the various EDBs (14 of different brands and models) tried and tested NS Design is the one with the best price / quality ratio and the most natural sound possible for pizzicato. Obviously with the bow and the standard string set it looks very much like one of those cheap Chinese studio basses

I just got back from a two-week vacation and my bass called out to me like an old friend anxious to get re-acquainted.
I picked up the bass and struck a few notes and fell in love all over again. I really am loving these strings.

Rickwolf Can i ask you a thing? i suppose the action of my NS Design is just a little low... Can you tell me the distance from fretboard to string at 24th (The G4-D4-A3-E3) in your bass of the last demo (Of course at empty string? I know ! Seems a little strange but... ( Sorry for my english !)
Dave, here is a thread on TB that you might find helpful.
Proper string height
I don't have a real accurate way of measuring my string height, but they seem to range from 4 or 5 MM on the G to about 8 mm on the E. That is measuring at the octave, or halfway point of the string.

I've reset action and trussrod of my ns Design NXT and the Perpetual set now sing a lot better!
Thanks to the fact that Perpetual are so soft strings now more volume, a sound more full at the pizzicato and more equilibrated with bow! Thanks again to Rickwolff for the indication! Long Life TalkBass and Members!

I’ve had the Perpetuals for about two weeks and decided to try a Spirocore Weich G.
Really good if you like that loud, buzzy sound, but the P has a darker, punchier sound I prefer.
Not doing that again. I love these strings.

I’m thinking I miss my Obligato D and G, which are thicker and a little softer feeling. The E and A is brighter than the Spiros, but not sure the Perpetual will blend as nicely with the Obligatos. Not sure what to do, but I really like the Flex Deluxe and Spiro blended set on my carved bass.
