Another trick for Spiro Weichs, particularly the G, is to bow the ever loving snot out of them for a few weeks. Helps them lose that "zing" pretty quickly.

There’s a lot to like about them. Just not the optimal string for my (only) bass.

I am planning to do this with my Spiro weichs when I get them on my new (to me) bass!

To me, a full set of anything is always better than mix and match. I know, most bassists wont agree...

I agree 100%. Mixed sets trigger my OCD.

I got home to find my almost four year old Olive G broken. Put a new Olive on and it matches beautifully with the new Perpetuals that have been on my bass for 2 months. Give me a perpetual G with a much thicker gauge and I will use a full set

Had a gig after playing the solos all week and really digging them, within 2 songs I was itching for my spiros. Got home put the spiros on: freight train. Me likes. Still love the velvety sound of the perps solo and I am sure I will play more on the Perp Orch's but man what the hell is it about spiros? They are addictive like cocaine.

mittels 3880. The solos have a great sound play so great across the bass have sustain for days growl without mwah but get mealy mouthed and lose umph and directness when under a drummer and piano

Mittels 3880 means solo downtuned to orchestra tuning?

no it means spiro mittel for 3/4 size bass. Orchestra Reds, KAZOW!

gotta say putting the spiros on, makes my piezo sound really bad. The perps are WAY more natural sounding electrified.

I believe he is assistant principal in Philly. Studied at Curtis with Hal Robinson. He was principal out here in Grand Rapids, MI for a while. He is playing one of Aaron Reiley’s newest basses. It’s pretty sweet. That’s all I know. Haha.
