One more question... for now. What is the difference between Firewire 400 and 800? Will I still be able to use a Firebox or other Firewire interface with just Firewire 400?

Firewire 800 is backward compatible with Firewire 400. Even if you find a machine with only Firewire 800 on it (note: you probably won't) you will be fine.

The new powerbooks have 1 or each kind of firewire port. I don't know of any interfaces that use 800 yet.
