Somewhere roughly around 8ft x 17-19ft. I forget exactly. It's a little bigger square footage wise than the place we rent now. So we know we'll fit. As I've said in this thread, the pics are VERY deceiving. It's a lot larger than it looks.

I also highly suggest doing it. Whats better than a room JUST for playing music, and hanging out? Nothing!
Yes, me and my fiance are in the process of saving up for refinishing our basement. We'll definitely make a jam room that will be soundproofed. At this point I'll only need room for my bass stuff but I'd like to keep space for a drum kit and a small PA. Hopefully the space could fit 4 or 5 guys.
Up in Canada the government is thinking about reinstating the home renovation tax credit so this is further incentive to get on it!
Painting has been finished. Just put the second coat on, and finished off the outlets. COvers are on, and we're ready for base and door molding, and carpeting. We could potentially move in tomorrow if we stay focused later today!

We went with Blue Seafoam. My guitarist and I were gonna do Seafoam Green, because hey, it's one of the best vintage guitar finishes ever! But it wasn't flowing well. The blue gave us that "The room looks bigger - It' feels like summer all year around in here" feel that we wanted.

The white wall is what I'll be painting a "Rock Mural" on. Just waiting for a projector. We're also attaching egg foam to the wall in problem spots, then hanging custom made panels over it, finished in fabric to really dampen the echo and vibrations.

You'd be amazed at what you can accomplish with 2 weeks, a few beers, some Red Bull, pizza, and good tunes playing in the background.
Oh, BTW, we FINISHED TODAY! Drums are set up, but we all know my bass rig is the most important. I'll post pics tomorrow morning when I'm all set up!
So I started placing things today. No guitar gear yet, but I'm tucked in up against the wall, with my stool, my rig and my monitor, and I gotta tell you, I'm feeling COZY! It's warm, the sound is dampened (And we're making sound dampening panels to help even more), and I feel comfortable as hell in there. It's so much better than the place we were in. The lighting is good (and on a dimmer switch for mood lighting), the carpeting is comfortable (not just laid over a concrete slab like the old place), the fridge will soon be chilling fresh beers, and the music will be flowing. First practice is tomorrow!
The best part, is we used to have to crank the volume to hear ourselves over other bands in the old space. The walls weren't insulated, most weren't even painted, and the ceiling was a drop in. My drummer and I did a quick jam last night, and wow. We run vocals just out of monitors, no tops, and I turned my amp way down. It was crystal clear. We could hear! This was worth ever penny. And it took 2 weeks to the day to complete. Here are some move in pics!
We'll be hanging a flat screen tv over the fridge, and the couch will go up against the opposite wall. All the cases and karts you see will be stored in my basement. No clutter, no mess. I also can;t stress enough, the pictures are deceiving. We ended up having more space than we thought!

You did an amazing job, but you moved too fast! I wanted to be able to give you some hints about sound leakage - to put down a double layer of drywall (With staggered seams) to keep the bass in - and to use the Green Glue in between - The Impact of Green Glue - Soundproofing. However, your room is inside another room - so perhaps leakage is not an issue. Another suggestion is a solid wood door with rubber seals - perhaps even 2 doors - one opening in and one opening out. Again, if your noise outside the garage is not an issue then it is moot.

Yup you're all correct. As for vents, we're installing a portable air conditioner, that shoots the hot air through a vent out the wall, while circulating clean air in the room. When it's winter, we hide the opening with a trap door. We also have a small thermostat heater that keeps it perfect for todays chilly weather. So we're good with that. The sound is also very dampened for not going all out with sound proofing. But the dampening pads we're putting up will help even more. We've used them before and they make a huge difference.
We have 4-6 members in the group (4 - 5 for bars, sometimes 6 for weddings), but only 3 of us (drums, bass, guitar) practices. The others live in the city and just come out for the gigs. So its comfortable.
