New Quilter bass amp!

I just wish they added an XLR out and left off one of the speakon connections. I don't really understand why you would want two? Doesn't daisy chaining make up for that anyway?

I agree ......most cabs can be chained, but the Quilter Bass Dock cabs have a single 1/4" input, so 2 outputs from the amp is a requirement to simultaneously run 2 of their own cabs. Frankly, the lack of speakon connectors on the cabs is also a complete fail in 2021, but they remain great sounding/performing cabs at a relative bargain price. The sound and power handling are up there with Mesa and Berg IME, but other corners were cut (heavier weight, 1/4" jacks, cheap generic handles) in order to keep the price below those brands.

It's in this 802 tech article Amp Lab – Quilter Labs Bass Block 802. Here is the paragraph:

"The strangest thing from the 800 is the weird frequency response that I was getting from the amp when the Contour knob was turned all the way down. The 802 does not show this strangeness. On the 802, the Snap knob controls the EQ at the same frequency, and it does not allow the output to go so low that you can see the problem. Looking at the waveforms on the scope, the 38.25 kHz sine wave overlay still exists on the output of this amp, but the EQ is a bit better behaved now and does not let the output go low enough for the overlay signal to take over the test."

There was this too regarding the power:

"The 800 and 802 are close enough in design that I was able to get an apples-to-apples comparison of the power numbers. The Gain is at 5.5 and the Master is at max. For the 1kHz testing, I had the THD+N set to 4%. The same higher THD+N occurs on this amp with lower frequencies, so I used the same 11.7% THD+N for the 50Hz power test. I was also able to get through the continuous power test at 50Hz with this amp. The 800 kept going into thermal protection for the 50Hz continuous test, so it appears that there are some upgrades to the (802) power amp and it is indeed better."

I'll just say, for my part, as someone who used a BB800 for a good while on many gigs -- I never heard any of that stuff.
Never turned either knob past a few clicks - just a good sounding amp with a ton of clean power that always delivered.

I can see though, how the 802 EQ would be appealing for a lot of players.

Gotcha, thanks! Not sure why one would use the contour fully clockwise though. I had the 800 for a test run and regret not keeping it. The 800 and 802 are no longer available over here in Europe.

Usually I've used the BB800 with Contour knob fully (or almost fully) counter-clockwise, with a quite generous Depth cut. Good thing is I still had no problem hearing myself

Isn’t setting both depth and contour fully clockwise the “dub” tone and both fully counterclockwise the “baritone guitar” tone in the Nick Campbell demo? I don’t get far from noon for my needs but I haven’t found a setting that’s bad.

Any of you using the BB802 paired with a tweeter cab in Europe?

I had bought it some months ago and it has some strange noises at ~5KHz. I returned back, but I've never known if it was a defective unit or the amp itself... I really liked the sound and power of that Quilter...

nah. No problems with a Barefaced BB2, though I prefer the tweeter dialed back at least 50%. Had some issues with the BB2, but that’s a didferent story.

Bummer. Really? It’s a shame. Bought mine end-2019 at Thomann. Do you happen to know if this is a Quilter decision or it just didn’t sell at the usual outlets. Guess it’s just hard for a newcomer entering an already pretty tight market, especially in COVID times.

Neither. Apparently something within EU regularities changed which forces Quilter to have to re-certify the 802 which would cost a ton of money. There's plenty of guitar products available but unfortunately no 802 right now. Let's hope for the future. In the meantime I was able to snatch a used 800 and I am very excited about that. I think it's the perfect platform for external preamps!

What about touring Europe with the 802? No issues with that? Just asking if I ever decide to travel over there.
