New respect for Michael Anthony

I've met both Eddie and Michael (separate) behind the scenes..
Unfortunately the dumb JD bass didn't help his PR.. he is the shining star of the band.
Solid as a foundation should be.

+1, not cheesy like I feared it might be. Definately more creative juices flowing than VH at this point.
Never a fan of his playing or of really anything about VH. But he's a cool guy and it really irritated me how he was dismissed after he'd been there for so long and really been about the music as a whole.
especially to know they replaced him with a kid that probably isn't even 18 yet...
i've never had a problem with michael.i know that all the slap and finger people think he's crap,but just because his basslines aren't bowel shaking,slap-tastic crap(the crap statement is just IMO)doesn't make him a bad bassist.

Yeah, that was really low, in my opinion. I don't have much respect for EVH because of that whole affair. I was never a fan, but really, what an insult.
I have despised EVH for some time. The EVH / Howard Stern interview was revealing on his character. Too bad.
I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the VH crew remasters the old VH stuff without Michael Anthony a la Ozzy.

Huge MA fan, and I'm glad to hear so much of Mike being Mike on the Chickenfoot disk. Had a chat with a guy a number of years ago who called Mike a hack. I almost punched him in the head.
There is revisionist history going on in some interviews with Eddie too. One was reprinted in Guitar(d) World where EVH says "I don't want any bass on my side of the stage because I hate Mike's tone." ***? I have the original interview, and it wasn't in there.
That's a killer, the upper register double stops during the verses in particular.
He was a great bass player, I completly understand what he means, my guitarists always like "Just lay something down in A and I'll like go crazy". It drives you mad but he's humble, good on him.
I have always proudly proclaimed Van Halen to be my favorite band while growing up - and Michael Anthony was certainly a big part of the reason why. Unfortunately, despite some GREAT tunes, that affection started to fade during the Sammy Hagar era. It completely ended with the introduction of Wolfgang in the band.
All that said...I think the new Chickenfoot album is great.

Chickenfoot will be down here in Phoenix in September. I may have to go out for that show. They play really good, non trendy (which is GREAT) rock n roll.
MA has always been a class act and a super solid player. Fair Warning being my personal fave. When VH kicked him out it was like chopping off a limb. Idiots.......
