I haven't seen a thread for this yet. I got the message via Facebook last night.
8/30/2011.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty excited.
I'm eager to hear how theyll sound with the new guy on guitar.

I read something about him feeling 'he had done just about everything you can do in the rock band format' (paraphrasing) I'm sure he's going to start spew out solo records again, wouldn't be surprised if it's in the rate he had at 2004.

New guitarist is Josh Klinghoffer, he played with them a bit in the Stadium tour and also recorded a ton of stuff with John Frusciante.

This is the first time I've been disappointed in their album title choice. I'm hoping the album's funkier than its title sounds.

My expectations are pretty low, but that's because I'm a big John Frusciante fan. Klinghoffer was pretty much the best person they could've gotten to replace him, but I'm not sure how they'll sound.

Mother's milk is my favorite record by them. BSSM and by the way are tied for second for me.
I'd like to see them get funkier again but I doubt it'll happen. personally, I like their mellow sound. Just not as much as the funky stuff.

Yeah, those two albums (Mother's Milk / BSSM) pretty much re-arranged how I approached playing bass back in the day... It's really not fair to expect more of the same - let alone mo-better.... but it so much of the material since then has been rather dull...

its said to say but most people dont even consider their early stuff to be "rchp" material, a couple of days ago i was hanging out with some people and i put on freaky styley and they woudn't even listen to a full minute of any song claiming "this is sh*t from before they got good" sigh.....

I'm really looking forward to it, even with all the changes in their style and sound i've liked their songs. I'm really interested in what Josh does with them, I heard he put in some keyboard work with them and Chad says theres song with piano. I'm really excited to see what they've come up with.
Plus, I love Johns' solo work, and in my opinion he kinda pushed them towards the more laid back songs. So maybe with him gone and Josh in, maybe they'll get some funkier crazy rockin stuff in there too.

Dear Lord, I'm ridiculously excited about this! I personally thought that 'Warlocks' and 'She's only 18' off SA were quite funky, but hey, that's just me! I think also, that BSSM, MM, FS, and UMPP as one group and BTW, Californication and SA as another (One Hot Minute being a bit of a curveball) are really quite different types of music, but I love them both! I think that the solo at the end of 'Wet Sand' is possibly the most emotion-filled piece of music I've ever heard, and I love it.

Yeah, She's Only 18 was quite funky in my opinion. They still have funky songs, they just aren't the singles. In reality they never were once BSSM hit.

Have you heard the B-sides that came off Stadium Arcadium mate? 'I'll Be Your Domino' off of Snow ((Hey Oh)) B-side, is pure funk, repetitive slap bassline, Flea even gets the wah out again, it's like BSSM all over again! :hyper:

I think of it like this too. I love the earlier, harder, funkier material, but BTW and Californication are great in their own right. I need more spins of Stadium Arcadium. Also, think back to Freaky Styley, and ask whether anyone would have predicted that band would ever last this long, and continue releasing decent music into the 2000's. They didn't exactly have "longevity" written all over them, and yet here they are.

In terms of live shows, they probably peaked at Mother's Milk. I caught them at a smallish Philly club on that tour, before the album hit big, and it was easily the best show I've ever seen. It's amazing to catch a band of that quality, at the peak of its powers, in a small venue.
