New RHCP album announced

I think from their debut record up through Uplift MoFo Party Plan, they were still just ripping off Fishbone. By Mother's Milk they had their own sound and kept evolving it afterwards.

I'm interested in the new record, but It seems that the records are only ever as good as the guitarist they have (see also One Hot Minute...Blech!). Frusciante was the best of the bunch.

I'm looking forward to it. I've liked all of the RHCP albums to some degree or another. I'm always interested to see what they come up with. Plus, a new guitarist always moves them in new directions.

Oh, and Rick Rubin is producing it. :hyper:

Hmm. I think freaky styley, and one hot minute are great albums. Esp coffee shop, and aeroplane. But to each their own. That's what makes music so good. I wouldn't mind a few californication esq songs, considering they were composed so well. But like everyone else.. I want more of that match lighting, stanky funk!

We can talk tone, producers, gear, whatever.
But if Anthony, Chad, Flea, and John are not on the new album.
It simply not the RHCP.
The magic was the four of them together.

Don't get me wrong, I think One Hot Minute was alright, but it was what happens when you try to shoehorn Jane's Addiction into a Chili Peppers album. Two great tastes, but leaves something to be desired when they are together. Pretty sure the guys in the band had a similar feeling, but it was a cool record for what it was.

I am looking forward to what Rick Rubin is going to do with this, especially after he was in on the last Gogol Bordello album. I don't think it will involve much stanky funk, but at least Fishbone and P-Funk are still around for that...

They were a great combo, but let's not forget Hilal Slovak.. two albums, but a great two albums in my opinion.
