They started dying for me long before Stadium Arcadium. Some say they're evolving. To me they've just been dying a slow death. But they're getting a lot richer so I'm happy for them anyway. Just can't say I like them any more, and no longer feel proud to say I'm a RHCP fan.

Ya know at one time if you said you were were a RHCP fan, it was a cool thing :). Nowadays, unless people were around in the 80s.... Yeah, whatever.

Going to go continue my mourning now.

Even though BSSM was their breakout album in terms of popularity, I thought it was their weakest one at the time. Their albums have only got weaker and more pedestrian since the 90s. Agree with others that they have been dying a slow death over the past 20 years which is a bummer for me because RHCP, Fishbone, and Jane's Addiction were my favorite bands my senior year in high school in 88-89.

I wasn't the biggest fan of BSSM, but they still delivered the goods live on that tour. Their set list still had a lot of songs from their old albums. I just checked out some recent footage of them live on Youtube, and none of their tours over the past 10 years or so seem to have any songs from their early albums. They have completely turned their back on what I think is their best material. I know others would disagree.

They formed in 1983. It is now 2016. They are different people now, with different lives, and therefore playing different music. Not every band wants to be Iron Maiden and release the same sound for 30 years.

BSSM is my favourite album by far, but I mean come on, give them a break. They want to play different music, they can do whatever they want. I think this song is a bit boring, but you can obviously hear the modern edge to it, and that they are doing something a little different.

Ever since Frusciante left they haven't had any good guitar parts in any of their songs. After Stadium Arcadium it sounds like they turned down the guitar in the mix, and then covered up the hole that is left with trumpets and pianos or other instruments. They may as well have not bothered getting a replacement guitar player as far as the music sounds.

The guitar isn't driving the music anymore, whereas it used to do it quite often. I know Flea has always driven the music as well but I mean the guitar seems to have just dropped off the map, whereas Flea and Frusciante would play off each other and drive the song.

Frusciante didn't want to be in the band anymore so they had to pick someone, but I don't think Klinghoffer was a good choice.

I agree. Frusciante was such a driving force in the band. I love flea's playing in IWY and this new single but the guitar is def lacking. I also dont really like the vocal melody in the chorus; i get the feeling in addition to all the amazing guitar work Frusciante also helped Anthony a lot. IMO anthony has always been the weak link and now without john carrying him its more evident.

Give Josh a chance though. When he first joined the band he couldnt even play a proper solo. Ive been watching more recent videos of the band and hes a completely different musician. Even though i didnt hear it in this track hopefully it'll show more throughout the album. Im really excited just based on the fact that Danger Mouse produced this, I really hate Rick Rubin. Can't wait to hear the whole album!

I don't know why some people have a problem with people once liking them, and then not liking them now. They're a different band now. And we're allowed to not like them anymore. Same as some people like them now, and don't really like their music from 20 years ago. It's quite different ya know. I think we're all smart enough to realize bands change, and evolve. We don't have to BS anybody though and say we still like or love them now, do we?

I loved Rush up until whatever came after a Farewell to Kings. 2 or 3 albums after that I stopped buying and listening.

And a final note, I think former Chili Pepper fans, or should I more accurately say - people who have been RHCP from the start - know that they're capable of much more than what they're currently putting out. A lot of people fell in love with the band for their energy, angst, and fun loving, eff everybody attitude - that's pretty much gone. Their newer music is incredibly lacking in any of the stuff a lot of us originally loved about the band.

No need to get upset about us not liking them any more :). They're finding a whole bunch of new love - which is awesome for them. They're not losing any sleep over losing any of their old fans either, I'm quite certain.

Yes, it's radio friendly. Is that a bad thing? If this becomes a hit, then I'll be pleased to see an actual band with an actual bass player get some exposure in the mainstream media for a change.

And no one should doubt that RHCP will do a decent live version.

I went to a rock/punk gig last weekend, and saw a couple of twenty-somethings basically singing to each other while playing the simplest possible guitar and bass lines to a recording of sampled drums and keyboard. This so-called band did absolutely nothing to engage the audience, instead it was like some private art project they were doing in their bedroom. I don't want that to be the future for live music.

I don't know if this was directed at me, but: I have no problem with people not liking them any more. I don't like them anymore. I just find it dumb that some people send so much vitriol towards them for changing their sound.

Here here. There are many bands whose early albums I love but have no interest in their later/recent material. I've always believed that most rock bands peak/burnout after 4-5 albums.
