I am not sure why you quoted me. I do not see what I wrote has to do with what Mr. Hall had to say.
I was responding to the post blaming it on C.A.R.B. and California laws.
I have not posted one way or the other in this thread. I just call BS when I see it.

I do find it very amusing when fan boys take threads from here and bring them to the private forums to "discuss"

John Hall saw this bass on another forum.

John Hall:
"We DO NOT overspray, ever! If we refinish an instrument, we use a combination of sanding and scraping to remove the finish to bare wood and start the refinishing process from the sealer up.

As such, this instrument was refinished by someone outside of our factory, period."

That is what I thought ... you get a refinned used instrument ... not a new Rickenbacker.

What does it look like beneath the pick guard an truss rod cover? Is it that red "easy come of paint" there too?

Last night I disassembled it and took some samples from cavities and under the pickguard, under the tuners, wherever I could.

No red.

The red only appears to be on the sides and back of the body.

Well, interesting continuation of this..

After the top chunk came off when it caught on my jumper.. I was curious to see how stable the red (possibly fireglo) finish was.

A piece of damp toweling... Yup, colour comes right off.

Imagine that. A re-finished bass.

That must be frustrating for the knee-jerk Ric haters.

I'm definitely intrigued.. Perhaps it was a refinish that someone sold to MF under the guise that it was the original finish? But you said it was scratch and dent, so it wasn't taken in as used, but a return?
