We don't really do an "oil" finish, we do a particular lacquer finish that LOOKS like an oil finish though. Just holds up better.

Thanks Cliff. I did decide to go with a Roscoe. I was leaning that way all along; I know what it is and what it does. Some day, I will get the opportunity to check out one of your basses fully made and we'll see. I have a feeling that I'll be saving up for one some day.

It's a synthetic oil....made from corn husks. And they don't really "rub" it in...they pat it on using a car wax applicator.

Bob, that is going to look killer. The whole package sounds like it is going to kill in my opinion.
And I now have my second Roscoe on the way. But coming all the way from FL, I am guessing that it won't be here till the beginning of next week, so I'll have to wait until next weekend to get my grubby hands on it. And I hate waiting.
So, this whole deal worked out for everyone--me (getting Roscoe #2), Bob (able to order his new one), and the guys at Roscoe (another bass to build)
And I now have my second Roscoe on the way. But coming all the way from FL, I am guessing that it won't be here till the beginning of next week, so I'll have to wait until next weekend to get my grubby hands on it. And I hate waiting.

Hey guys: Ryan's wife is the one who went to the bank to make out the money order for my six string. Don't we all wish our wives were THAT supportive of the expensive bass habit?
I have a couple gigs coming up in the next couple weekends, and a few rehearsals with new projects, so it'll get put to use right away.
One thing I have to say about my wife is that she is VERY supportive of my bass playing--as long as I don't go overboard on gear (in other words, spend money that should go somewhere else), she is all for it.

Question for Gard, or anyone else: How many Roscoes are getting the new Nordstrand pickups and how would you characterize them compared with the standard Bart soapbars? And when is the Demeter Preamp requested versus the Bart 3 band? Also, what is the sonic difference between Spanish Cedar Body wood compared with Swamp Ash?

Both are "gaining ground" though.
Spanish Cedar is somewhat similar in tone to Mahogany. My typical "quick description" is "imagine Mahogany, then make it less compressed sounding". In other words, warm, full, and open. Swamp ash is very punchy, has great attack, but doesn't get harsh like a solid maple or myrtle body CAN (but doesn't necessairly does) get.
