It's crazy they think the body wood option is more important than the neck type. Why would you want swamp ash plus J-neck on a precision is beyond me, unless you're going custom/boutique. I mean, Sire had one mission: make very good quality instruments affordable to everyone. Just make one alder model with P-neck, 5 different colours/maple/rosewood and cut on production costs!

That's beside the point! If you need more than 3 knobs on a P-bass, you're doing it wrong.
That's besides the point, this is obviously a lot more than just a P bass. Nothing wrong with that preamp. You don't have to use it if you don't want, leave it in passive and you've got your 3 knobs.

FWIW, my USA Fender P has more than 3 knobs, so Fender "did it wrong" too (by your standards).

They apparently asked customers and found the majority wanted the J neck so that's what they're offering as stock. I still think they should have made the P neck a stock option though. Hoping they reconsider.

I've been holding off on my next bass purchase waiting for more information on this bass, but at this point I'm going to hope that a "vintage" version releases with the color/neck options i prefer. Until then, maybe ill go for some other style of bass.

The skinny neck fanboiz are just more vocal. ;-)

About 75% of players prefer the J profile and most manufacturers respond to that (I'm looking at YOU Ibanez). Sire already has everything else in their lineup equipped with skinny necks.

Sire missed the boat on this one by neglecting to create a bass for the other 25% of players. They could redeem themselves by offering either neck as a free option.

Time is running out, though.

I learned long ago in marketing that a crucial error is creating demand, then failing to fill it. All you have done is to frustrate your (former) customer and made a new customer for your competition.

Case in point: I abandoned my plans for a Sire P In early April (after Sire's reneging on the P neck) and I am just finishing a full-active build on a new Squier alder bodied PJ. Great neck on those, BTW.

MOO, YMMV.

I followed their poll on their Facebook page. It went like this, basically: at first they posted an announcement about their decision to offer the P-neck as stock considering the poll results. About one month later they changed their minds upon the point that "people usually prefer J necks". :smug:
I don't even understand some who wrote "if you want that, just buy a Fender". A Fender 5 string Elite/Deluxe is priced twice or even more, these instruments should offer same quality/standards at lower price point. It's like they're aiming a totally different target instead. I mean, ash+maple PJ with J neck and 18V preamp.. what's that, Victor Wooten 2.0? :D A P-Bass for slappers.
