New Sire P Basses!

SIRE say P-bass necks will be sold separately.

Yes but why should I be forced to buy another neck for a bass that will cost me most likely at least $600? That is ridiculous... Now .. if they just gave you the option for a P or a J neck from the start .. I bet they would sell a lot more of these basses than they would forcing you to buy a bass with a neck you do not want and then buying the neck you want later.. that is just not good business. It is stupid. I would be willing to bet that there will be more folks who would be willing to just pass on this bass altogether than to buy the bass and a neck. For the person who won't mind having two necks for one bass it is ideal.. but I am not that guy and I do not think I am alone.. For the guys that prefer the J neck.. then they have no problem with any of this.. but if they were smart.. they would market this bass with the option to have either neck from the factory..

I totally agree they should offer both necks, stock from the factory. I felt the same when I thought it was going to be the JAZZ neck that would need separate purchase. I was going to pass in that case, as you surmise will be the case with a number of P neck lovers. This current plan works great for me, but I still wonder why they can't do both.

That said, HUBBA HUBBA for that latest photo Sire's released, that Sunburst P7 with the rosewood neck. Looks awesome. Makes me rethink going for the maple neck when it's time.

It looks like they repositioned the controls. I like it!

I think you're right! The volume knob looks like it's further from the P pickup than it was in previous photos. Good move on their part... and I wonder if they don't read these forums... a number of people had said they thought they were too close before... and the neck thing... that's great.

A smart company listens to their customers before the get all the way to market... I can see why their very-gradual-rollout of all models works for them. It was the same with the M7... they had several prototype versions that they circulated photos of. They made a number of changes including offering a single/parallel/series PU switch, which our TBers had been suggesting. That too was a late addition, just like reversing their policy on the P7 neck, a month before pre-order begins.

I was happy to hear this is finally happening. I've been wanting a P/J for a while now but I wanted it to have a 1.5" nut. This is very tempting along with GC putting the MIM P/J on sale recently. Not sure if i should get that Metallic Surf beauty or wait for the Sire. I'm guessing the price of the Sire will be about $599 US? The Sire preamp is really making me lean that way, I love their Mid Freq control on my V7 5-string.
