Double Bass New soundposts....

I don’t know, but if a bass bounced around in the back of a hatchback mazda for about 300 miles, I wouldn’t be surprised to find that the soundpost moved. Would you?

Although a particular bass may sound best with a loosely fit post, I generally fit them so they are firmly in there with no string tension. With over 200 pounds of string tension, they won’t move.

James, with your specialties including access panels and aeronautic plastics, have you ever thought about making an adjustable-length CF sound post? (Not that a wooden adjustable-length sound post wouldn't also be cool!)

Although an adjustable sound post made of Corn Fakes would be really cool, I doubt it would last very long. And I believe that the delicate flakes are now on the endangered species list

I find it impossible to believe that the soundpost in a bass tuned to playing pitch could move unless the bridge were to be knocked over or dropped due to a broken tailpiece cable.

Unless the back pops off from the endpin block up to the c bouts all at once while the bassist is tuning, because...

Well, really, I don't know what made that one happen quite like it did, but I'm glad I don't have to play that bass anymore, and I think that college has since invested in a proper humidification solution for the room they keep the basses in to try and keep things like that from happening again. But the back on that bass definitely has problems. There's also the time the bridge cracked into four separate pieces not counting the adjusters or feet in the middle of a Mozart rehearsal...
